Hi All
I'm lying in bed and can't sleep. I start Chemo treatment tomorrow. Docetaxil and Phesgo, with three days of steroids.
Up till now I've had tests, tests & more tests. Nurses have been great, but the doctors not so much.
I've been told I'll start on a 50% dose of docetaxil. If this doesn't work for me there is very little margin to adjust, with no other options.
I started writing war & peace here, but I deleted it. I'm not ready to share. There is so much going on and very little practical medical help locally. I need an holistic approach not a 'this is not my area, so I can't help' attitude. Is losing weight regime a good idea during chemo?
Frustrated and angry!
Going into battle tomorrow
Current status: Cancer-1; Me -0 (but not for long!)

Hi Sledge.
Go Luck for the chemo,is this your first time?
I started mine last month and I can say that the the through of it was a lot worse than the chemo itself I know it a stupid thing to say but try not to worry too much.
A losing weight regime doesn’t sound like a good idea to me and gose against anything I have been advised.
Ian
Hi Ian
Thanks for your thoughts.
I've never done well with the run up to things, but it settles down when it gets started, so I'm hoping it is as you say.
I didn't think it was a good idea to lose weight either, but I'll talk to the hospital team and see what they say.
Thanks again
Sledge
Morning Sledge, I've not started chemo yet, but have family who have, and dieting at this time isn't wise, as your body will need extra energy to fight the cancer, and as some possible side effects of treatment can have an impact on your eating, you should if anything try to eat a little more, healthy if possible, but whatever you fancy if not, best wishes and hugs Eddie xx
Thanks Eddie
I agree with you. I have to be careful about what I eat anyway, being a diabetic, so I'm not likely to change that element as my sugars are high and will go higher with the drugs.
I mainly eat healthy but the balance of carbs is challenging.
Hope you have a good day!
Morning Sledge, I just want to say good luck today. I would say try and keep to your normal routines as much as you can. When I first had chemo twelve years ago someone told me this and it was the best advice I was given. Keeping to your routine makes it feel as normal as possible (if that is possible). Anway I am sending you a virtual big hug. x

Hope you are doing as well as possible.
Unfortunately I have the most common problems, so diet has to be managed. Still working on the diabetes one, but the rest are ok.
I'm hoping I don't have too many difficult side effects but like all of us, I'll just have to see and roll the punches.

Hi Sledge, wishing you all the best too. As for eating, chemo made me all but lose my appetite, I could have done with a healthy buffer so eat when you feel like it would be my advice. Somebody compared it to being a soldier on active duty: eat and sleep when you can.

Thanks for your support everyone. It definitely made me feel like I was not alone.
Today was a day of delays. I was meant to start at 9 but didn't start until 12. So I didn't work this afternoon. There was question as to whether I would start at all as the Phesgo being an expensive drug needs authorisation from the oncologist who hadn't authorised it.
I did have some side effects when chemist started but they were bearable and faded over time headache, bone pain, mild nausea stinging in my arm the same side as the cannula (which was expected) and tiredness. I only got a 70% dose, but it went well.
Still feeling tired, so I am going to crash for a while.
