  • Thank you Tvman, but Sheila doesn't go to the hospice as she's in good health and not my carer, and to be honest art's and craft's aren't her thing. How are things in NI, I hope your allotment wasn't too battered by the storm, it wasn't so bad here but the runners were flattened, but I'd sown some more 2 weeks ago which should be ready in October, I will plant some Kestrels at the end of the month so we have baking potato's for winter.

  • Hi Eddie, so all your own work, congratulations Grinning

Life isn't so bad here, encouraging to hear about the tourism industry, how well it's doing. The word is that there are 3 or 4 VIPs from the Yorkshire? area going to arrive here soon for a few days. I'd love to meet them for an afternoon or so. At least 1 of them is an enthusiastic allotmenteer.

The storm wasn't so bad this time, the worst that happened was some fleece was blown off a couple of beds of brassicas. I was pleasantly surprised that my sweetcorn plants and sunflowers were still standing, undamaged.

I have some Kestrel and Cara potatoes ready for use soon, some of course will be heading for Dundalk when my son comes back at weekends. I have some Picasso potatoes to finish first, maybe enough for 5 or 6 meals.

    Take care Eddie

  • Hi my friend, I can't believe how lightly you got off with the storm, and I can understand your sweetcorn standing up to the winds , but not sunflowers, there not like any sunflowers I know,

It's also great to hear your son got a place in Dundalk, I'm sure Mrs T and yourself were delighted with the wonderful news.

I've tried many varieties of potato,  and not being a big consumer of them, I'm happy with my Charlotte's and Kestrels. I used to grow sweet potato in a large container filled with manure in my big greenhouse after it's use as a hot bed was over for the season and it produced excellent results, much appreciated by the @÷#%#=& rats, lol.

Sadly my hoped for trip to NI, is off for now, as we only have  3 nights free, but there's a chance of a day trip to Larne or Belfast, and a meet up would be great, I'll let you know my friend.
