I have Stage 4 lung cancer, so whenever Johnny Irwin or Esther Rantzen is in rhe news, I find myself following their stories closely.
They seem to be doing well which gives me some hope.
Have just watched Esther's daughter on Loose Women, which was very interesting. Esther has joined Dignitas apparently. I would also like a choice of how and when to die.
In this country pets have dignified peaceful deaths, but we don't. Its not right.
Wow chelle this is exactly what I said yesterday! Using the word terminal and not incurable, it really confused some of my friends and family and of course being the cancer person they asked me why the term was used lolll I’m like “ I dunno “ but had to reassure them I was never told I’m terminal in the eyes of my cancer clinic I’m TNC - treatable not curable. Hi Starflower, couldn't agree more with your thoughts on assisted dying, I was in healthcare for 15 years, 5 of which were in end of life care, and the suffering many had to endure even knowing they had very little time, a couple of days maybe, and little if any chance of even a tiny, momentary recovery was awful not just for the patient, but for the family too, you can imagine some of the things they asked of me, a truly soul destroying position to find myself in, I have been wishing for assisted dying ever since.
Starflower, I have already planned for my end of life care, I have, with the help of my GP and nurse consultant filled in my ReSPECT form, DNR form and Power of Attorney, which I carry with me everywhere,

Thanks for the reply eddiel
im going to sort out my end of life care too.
like you I worked in social care and saw many patients near to the end of their life and my mum.
I hope that they improve hospice care and bring in the new law, it would make me feel a tiny bit more in control of my demise but for now let’s keep on living as best as we can!
best wishes Starflower
Hi Starflower, your welcome, as much as I hope the new law is brought in, I think it best we organise our own end of life wishes, I don't know if your supported by your hospice, but mine have been so helpful with mine, as has my GP, who not yet 40yo, has done exactly the same as me, and assisted me with mine, making me aware of treatments/medication which may extend life but offer little if any improvement. PS, I I looked after my mum, she had lung cancer, 18 years ago now, and will never forget her last 2 weeks, I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, my sincerest condolences, absolutely keep on living, been lucky to get away lately, as my daughters cancer treatment is going better than hoped, we are at the Scilly Isles for a few days before her surgery, take care
Eddie xx
