I thought I would start a general crafts thread. We can ask questions and share our projects. Works in progress and completed ones are welcome, with no pressure. If we digress sometimes, that's ok too.

Hi Catmarel, just jumping in here (hope you don’t mind), I haven’t heard of ‘pyrography’ - very intrigued and will now Google it! If you get a chance, and if you feel comfortable doing so, I’d love to see your handiwork.  Very best wishes xxxx.

  •  Hi

    I don't mind at all  !

Pyrography is more commonly done on wood, you'll find lots about it on YouTube. But not a lot on leather, it's not so common as it's harder to do. I started off with a cheap pen that had two heat settings. It's a good little starter pen, but it gets too hot for leather. If you have a go and find you enjoy it then I highly recommend a Peter Childs professional Pyrography pen,  it makes it a lot easier. I also recommend his website, I get my bits from there, apart from the leather. I'll post up some of what I've done tomorrow and please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Thank you Cat! It sounds really interesting. When you have time, I would love to see your work. I am sure others would too!  xxxx

  • Did you make bits to sell at the bike shows Cat? Id love to see them too x

  • No Shadders, that was for advertising my business that i've just had to close, repairing and altering all types of motorcycle wear, flying jackets, out door jackets and other heavy duty bits. I would sew on patches etc, do small on site repairs, anything i couldn't do on site i would bring back and return them when completed... it was a busmans holiday, with the bands & booze in the evenings !!

I have made a couple of leather bits for myself, all hand made & saddle sticthed. I'm not good enough to make and sell, i leave that to the leather craftmen !
