Here by special request, the latest in the Lovely Morning series.

  • Congratulations Sarah, yes either a blanket or shawl for a new born. When you have a bit of notice, you can knit the first and second sized cardigans etc and if you don't know the sex, just leave the button holes until the baby is born! You must be so excited. Is this your first grandchild?

  • Fantastic Sarah. You will love being a grandparent, it is entirely different from being a parent, in a nice way. When is the baby due?

  • Hi girl, A first grandchild Sarah, Annette is right it's a completely different experience to your own children, you will spoil her/him rotten

  • Agree Ulls can always hand them back, after you have had enough x

  • Yes Ulls is right, that's what grandparents are for, buying things just because! No reason needed! When you are parents and have young children, a mortgage etc you can't always afford what you would love to buy your children. However in later life, mortgage paid, no money worries, you can buy what you like for a grandchild and you don't even have to wait until their birthday, Christmas or any other occasion.

Oh and Ellie is spot on as usual. You can have them for a few hours, then give them back. That's the time you sit with your feet up and have a cup of tea and reflect on what a lovely time you had!

That's what my husband and I did today. We had our two granddaughters from 3.30 (after school) gave them their dinner, played games etc and our daughter came back for them at 7.30. It was terrific, they are 7 & 10 years old.

Haaving our grandson over on Sunday for dinner, so a day in between to recover! Lol!
