Hi gardeners and non gardeners alike, earlier this week my grandson helped me to put seed potatoes in. This photo is of the seed potatoes in their positions, ready to be dug in. They should be ready for digging up 3 month's time onwards. That's the time when the surprise of the new potatoes is discovered and the enjoyment begins. You don't need to dig them all up at the same time, they'll happily store below the ground until needed.

Hi Tvman, what a great photo, the next generation! I did seed potatoes with our grandchildren last year for a school project and they were well pleases when they took their bags of potatoes into school. I will do it again this year, when we get back. I've learned a few things since last year!
Is that in your garden or his garden when you were visiting?

Hi Annette, I still learn from previous years even after 35 years of gardening! You do a lot for your grandchildren and I can imagine their joyful enthusiasm when they're working with their hero grandmother
The photo was taken in the raised bed on a paved play area in my daughter's back garden. I shall be planting some seed potatoes and sowing some seeds into small seed trays for germination on a sunny windowsill today and I shall cover that in the gardening thread.
Take care Annette

Hi all gardeners and non gardeners alike, I'm really happy to announce that the growing season has begun in County Down, Northern Ireland.
My new season seed potatoes have been planted and a few tomato seeds have been sown along with some salad varieties too and the tray is on a sunny day
Seed potatoes in position before being planted 5 inches below the surface
Seeds have been sown and labels inserted with names and dates added. VERY IMPORTANT
There'll be more photos in the coming days. Anyone else sowing seeds etc? I've been doing this for almost 40 years and have gathered a wealth of knowledge. If anyone needs any information, just ask and I'll do my very best to reply with advice.
Take care everyone

Hi tvman
Your gardening looks very professional. I've planted a 2nd rhubarb plant in the border and some flower corms. I'd been growing chillies and tumbling tom tomatoes in a heated propagator and I've pricked them out and put in the greenhouse. I raided my recycling bin for waste plastic top to put over to keep them warmer. It's an unheated greenhouse. I think I may be pushing my luck as it's a bit early and cold but I'll keep a check on them.
Ive planted up dahlia and hardy geranium into pots in the greenhouse, to be planted out when it gets a bit warmer. I've been feeling a bit low lately so hopefully the gardening and the Spring coming will help.
Can I ask, tvman, what you use for your plant labels. I've been using wooden lolly sticks but they just soak up moisture and then I can't read it.
Thanks,
A x
