Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • Here are some images of willow scuptures made by Joy Whiddett who was a member of the art group I belong to. Joy sadly sucummbed to cancer a few years ago. She was so talented and we all remember her with great affection. Rainie x

  • They are fabulous. I love the work of Andy Goldsworthy who makes art which can be very ephemeral ( using ice  for example or branches and leaves. He is worth looking up if you dont know his work.

  • Hi OBS, I've seen his work and he's one of the few land artists whose work I like. I think it's because it's of the land and it degrades and goes back into the landscape. Or, it's made from the natural materials found there - like his cairns and so on. It's not imposed onto the landscape as something artificial. Yes, I agree worth a good look. Rainie x

  • I thought you would like to know that one of the lovely cancer nurses at my hospital asked if she could sign up to do my art projects and I've just sent them off to her.  Roll up, roll up,  three little projects available.  Rainie x

    Rainie (global domination) day.

I am going to start my own lowbrow annexe to this forum. My qualifications are unimpeachable for this project.

If it is possible to look back at my contributions since being on here you will see I will not have taxed anyone's brain power. I think this is a considerate approach. Well?

  • Does this mean we might get to see some Norberry doodles perhaps? I think we'd all be eager to see a Norberry original - no matter what level of 'brow' you think they might be aimed at. Off you go then. Shall I send you my projects to play with? Are you up for it Norberry? Out with your crayons.

Off to my tent like Achilles now. You will want me back (won't you?)

  • Norberry, you are talking to yourself now. Artists in Residence aren't allowed to sulk you know. What about doing a nice self-portrait?  Rainie x
