Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • Hi clg, Glad to hear you are losing yourself into colour. If you feel you can, it'd be nice to see your 'blobs'. You are making therapeutic art! I will keep on posting, as long as I can hold a brush. Rainie x

Can someone tell me what word in the above message makes me at risk of domestic abuse??? Keep getting this message and I'm stumped as to what has triggered it.

  • People seem to enjoy seeing art even if they're not making any. So I will keep popping on different images for your comment. I've chosen another artist, Marc Chagall - who was a Russian Jew. He moved to Paris, but with the rise of Hitler moved south and finally fled with his family to America. After the war he returned to Paris. His wife Bella features in a lot of his work and prints are popular gifts to give newlyweds. In later life he made wonderful stained glass. Do Google him and enjoy the work which is full of mystical, whimsical fun as well as more serious themes touching on his faith and the world around him.  Rainie x

  • How good are they, thank you for sharing, zooming in you can see more and more detail

  • Hi, Rainie

Will do. I am indeed doing art therapy.

Did it with Maggie's and it was AMAZING. The facilitator / therapist was Poppy Stevens. It helped much more than I could express. They're running the in-house course again at Barts (Royal Free, too, I believe) but I much preferred the online one. Only a handful of us and we got to really exchange.

As for the "domestic abuse" stuff - just ignore. There was a scandal a few years back about some Samaritans algorithm causing panic in people as messages were being flagged "suicidal". Machines aren't quite as good as people at decoding feelings yet... Phew-ee! (Well... some machines... some people anyway)

In fact before I was allowed to press Reply on this message, I got this (because I used the word suicidal and in spite of the quote marks):
