Art for art's sake

I was wondering if anyone feels they might benefit from being part of an art group specifically for those here. I'm an artist, though I have to admit to you that I've produced absolutely nothing for ages due to being ill and in hospital, not having anywhere to exhibit for aeons and generally being extremely knackered out most of the time. But then I started thinking maybe I could do something positive about it. I've worked within what's called the 'Arts in Health' sphere and done a lot with things like colour therapy. I'd also like to say that you don't have to be rich to make art. I've done a whole exhibition made from recycled materials. It's all about taking yourself to another place for a while and having a bit of messy fun. No judgemental rubbish or anything like that. And if you don't think you're able to draw anything that looks remotely like what it's supposed to look like, well, that doesn't matter either. I think that maybe for starters you might like to message me if you are interested and then I'll try and work out a little programme. Just for us. Let me know what you think. Rainy X

  • I'd love a country estate, but my semi detached within easy reach of the peak district suffices, the Cairngorm Reindeer were well worth a visit, I hope that you haven't been mistreating them Norberry!

  • Not being religious, I'm not sure when the actual 12 days of Xmas are, but starting today up till 25th, I thought I'd put on an arty wintery scene that you might enjoy. Here's the first one. It's by Van Gogh and is 'Two Peasant Women digging in the Snow.' Love the colours in this. Rainie x

I did at first glance think they were two penguins ........ I'll get my coat.

  • What a lovely idea Rainie. I love this painting. It’s beautiful x

  • Hi Norbs, if you wear glasses, get a stronger pair. If you don't, get to Specsavers (other opticians are available). Did you think the people in the wee house kept a couple of pet Penguinpenguins in the field? Slight smile

Seriously though Rainie, I love the sky, so complicated (might be a better arty word for it then that but it's not 6am yet and I'm in pain)

    Take care and stay safe

I'm ashamed of course, my art O level has come to nothing.

  • Ihave always liked Van Gogh. The sky is really strange in this one x

  • Hi tvman,

The sky is complicated. It's as good a word as any. But so sorry to hear you're in pain and looking at this at 6am. Do you have some meds to take if the steroids haven't kicked in yet? I hope you can get this under a bit more control over the Christmas period.

    Hi Ruth too:

The thing with the sky is the strength of the mark-making. I don't know if Van Gogh actually painted this one outside - which he did a lot - or if the cold weather drove him back into the studio, but the marks are so bold and strong and therefore very expressive of how he felt in that environment. Maybe he was bloody cold and had to get it down on the canvas fast? But there's something about it's moody look that suggests to me the sort of wintery turbulence we get in a cold East Anglian sky - so I can sort of relate to it. It has an early morning look to it.

Take care both of you and I hope you can both manage a pain-free festive time. Lots of love. Rainie x
