Hi everyone, I don't post much as I never feel I have much to offer. But i would like to ask a question . I have untreatable bilateral lung cancer. I don't appear to have any symptoms (I have plenty for my other maladies) I have applied for attendance allowance on advice from my gp (she brought me the DS1500 form) That seems to imply she thinks my time is limited. As I live alone I feel the need to get my affairs in order as much as possible. I always thought doctors won't ever give a prognosis, but is that true? Thanks for reading.
Well you can moan at me as much as you want, I havnt got worse to contend with and those on here who have got worse to contend with would love the opportunity to listen and try to help you.
I am pretty sure I would be moaning more than you. You are suffering and you should moan as much as possible.
I've just been watching The Dog House on telly and crying, but of course I am a man! Xx
Hi Minimoo,
I have Stage 4 small bowel adenocarcinoma with secondary in abdomen and lungs. It recurred in April 2019 and I was told it was incurable. I asked the Consultant directly about prognosis and he said 2 to 4 years. Here I am nearly two years and I still have no symptoms from the cancer. I had one year of Folfiri which shrunk the lesions. I had a nine month break from treatment with little growth but February scan showed more growth so back on chemo. It feels weird having treatment when still no symptoms!
I think they will only give a prognosis if you ask directly. Some people don't want to know. Also you will read on here encouraging news about those who manage to go well past their "sell-by date". If you want to know then ask. Perhaps your GP thinks you need the support for your other maladies and not the cancer. It's better to ask and clarify rather than worry.
Good luck and keep positive.

That is really helpful thank you. I do need to talk to the consultant again, but it needs to be face to face. i struggle with phone calls so I'm just longing for things to normalise and we can get proper appointments again.
i have had a chat and it was so helpful. I know where to go when I'm stuck now.
The emphysema has so wrecked my lungs that no treatment is possible, palliative care only when required. I'm a very 'upfront' sort of person and will always want to know everything that affects me.
My immediate thoughts are to find someone who can shop for me. I am so fed up with Tesco online deliveries.
