Hi Everyone,
It is some time since our last meet up so I have arranged another for York on Saturday 16th November at the same venue as we previously used. The Saint Nicholas Christmas Fayre (click here) starts on the Thursday before so York will be in all it's Christmas finery if you wanted to stay a bit longer and make a break out of it. The same link above takes you to the Visit York website if you want to see what else is on in the area.
As with previous meet ups if people can let me know if they are interested via this thread that would be great as I have made a reservation but the venue has asked me to call them shortly before the date to clarify how many people we are expecting to attend to make sure we have enough space.
If people want to spread the word onto the other groups that they are members of I would be grateful if they could ask if people could express their interest via this thread. I will ask those attending to send me friend requests so I can send any info and contact numbers to them directly nearer the time.
Although previous meetings have been booked from 12 to 2pm they have continued long beyond this as people got talking to each other and enjoyed the company. Friends and family have been made welcome previously but please make sure they are aware that the common factor in those attending is cancer and it is likely to be a significant topic of conversation. Also previously one or two people were staying over on their own on the Friday night beforehand and we arranged for people to meet up (if they wanted to) so that they weren't wandering the city on their own. It would be lovely to see lots of you there and to be able to put names to faces.
The venue is a public house called the Windmill on Blossom Street less than 1/4 of a mile from York Railway station. On the map attached it is the junction towards the bottom left corner. The venue has a website ( Windmill Inn ) and serves food and real ales as well as all the usual beverages. It has level access for anyone in a wheelchair although the main entrance is over a few cobbles. It is on a junction opposite Micklegate Bar (pictured below) which is one of the entrances through the city walls. It has a Premier Inn hotel on one side of it and a taxi firm (Fleetways) on the other. It is about 100 yards from a York City Council run car park on Nunnery Lane, Council run car parks in York are free to disabled badge holders without time limit and not restricted to disabled parking bays.
To walk from the railway station leave via the main exit and the city walls are in front of you. Stay on the same side of the road and walk over a bridge and up a slight hill and the venue is the white building on your right on the junction of Queen Street and Blossom Street.
I hope to see lots of you there. Gragon xx
Hi ,
It was lovely to meet everyone and I really enjoyed myself as well. I enjoyed meeting some new people and reconnecting with some old friends. Hopefully we can have another in six months or so and you will be able to attend again.
I hope to post the photo's tomorrow (I'm a bit tired now and just want to put my feet up). I have sent a PM to you and Atina, if you could check them and get back to me that would be great.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Love Gragon xx
Hi, It sounds as if your "meet" was another success! That's terrific! I would love to see a photo, I'm assuming someone took one!
Love Annette x
Hi Lass, sorry to read you are having a bad day I think we all know the feeling!I think It was the right thing to do to put your apologies in to the York meet as we need to be kinder for ourselves which we are not very good at! I was disappointed that I could not manage and hope I will make the next one if we have another. I also hope I will meet you along with the others as I like your posts. In the meantime have a peaceful, cozy week-end, rest and pamper yourself. As Johnty says, tomorrow is another day and I hope you will start to feel better soon. Sending you virtual hugs and love, Pat xx
Hi all,
Please see attached pics from the York meet up. A small but select group but we had a great time and hope to have another in about 6 months or so.
Maybug and Alive
Atina, skaila and daloni
daloni and Alive
skaila and Alive.
I have no photo's with me in them but daloni took some. She said something about having a wide angle lens on her camera but I didn't really understand that bit.
We finally finished at about 6pm with skaila, Alive and I being the last out of the door.
If anyone fancies organising any meet ups in other parts of the country I think several of us have said we would love to attend. There used to be fairly regular London meet ups until recently and it would be lovely to see them reinstated. It is just as easy for me to get to London as it is skaila and daloni to get to York. I am happy to talk to anyone about how I arranged the York ones if they think that they might be interested in arranging one.
I will try and give plenty of notice before the next York meet up so that people can access cheaper prices by booking in advance.
Al the best,
Gragon xx
And here he is. Gragon himself. Quite why my phone has decided to turn these upside down and sideways I couldn’t say. I hope I’m not giving anyone vertigo.
It was a smashing get together. I’m so sorry you couldn’t make it, Lass. You were missed. I hope you’re having a brilliant holiday, .
Now. I really must get on with organising a London meet up...
xxc
PS I’m so sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye properly Alive Maggie. My lift was suddenly on its way. I thought you were out the front but of course you were out the back. Anyway. Big virtual hug instead xxxx
