Another meet up in York on 16th November

Hi Everyone,

It is some time since our last meet up so I have arranged another for York on Saturday 16th November at the same venue as we previously used.  The Saint Nicholas Christmas Fayre (click here) starts on the Thursday before so York will be in all it's Christmas finery if you wanted to stay a bit longer and make a break out of it.  The same link above takes you to the Visit York website if you want to see what else is on in the area.

As with previous meet ups if people can let me know if they are interested via this thread that would be great as I have made a reservation but the venue has asked me to call them shortly before the date to clarify how many people we are expecting to attend to make sure we have enough space.

If people want to spread the word onto the other groups that they are members of I would be grateful if they could ask if people could express their interest via this thread.  I will ask those attending to send me friend requests so I can send any info and contact numbers to them directly nearer the time.

Although previous meetings have been booked from 12 to 2pm they have continued long beyond this as people got talking to each other and enjoyed the company.  Friends and family have been made welcome previously but please make sure they are aware that the common factor in those attending is cancer and it is likely to be a significant topic of conversation.  Also previously one or two people were staying over on their own on the Friday night beforehand and we arranged for people to meet up (if they wanted to) so that they weren't wandering the city on their own.  It would be lovely to see lots of you there and to be able to put names to faces.

The venue is a public house called the Windmill on Blossom Street less than 1/4 of a mile from York Railway station.  On the map attached it is the junction towards the bottom left corner. The venue has a website ( Windmill Inn ) and serves food and real ales as well as all the usual beverages.  It has level access for anyone in a wheelchair although the main entrance is over a few cobbles.   It is on a junction opposite Micklegate Bar (pictured below) which is one of the entrances through the city walls.  It has a Premier Inn hotel on one side of it and a taxi firm (Fleetways) on the other.  It is about 100 yards from a York City Council run car park on Nunnery Lane, Council run car parks in York are free to disabled badge holders without time limit and not restricted to disabled parking bays.

To walk from the railway station leave via the main exit and the city walls are in front of you.  Stay on the same side of the road and walk over a bridge and up a slight hill and the venue is the white building on your right on the junction of Queen Street and Blossom Street.

I hope to see lots of you there. Gragon xx

  • Hi Daloni,
I saw you disappearing through the door but by the time I got there you were to far away to hear me. Sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye, but it was so good to see you. Let’s hope it’s not too long before we can all meet up again. Thanks for the virtual hug.
    love and hugs

  • Very glad you all look to be having fun!

For those asking, I'm going up and down.

I got my PIP renewal form through end of last week, and that has sent my anxiety and stress sky high. It doesn't run out until June, which means I wasn't expecting it until maybe March at the earliest, so I hadn't braced myself for it. So panic has set in about "what if I don't get it renewed?" because financially I'll be stuffed.

Then it turns out I'd eaten something dodgy. So for 24 hours I really wasn't well on top of that.

So until I fill out the form, send it off, then hear back from them as to yay or nay, I'm going to be a bit of a stress head mess. And if it's a nay.... Fuck knows where my head will go.

    Happy Christmas to me.

    Lass

  • Hi Lass, If your PIP doesn't expire until June then that is early! Mine is due for renewal in April and I haven't heard anything yet!

Just a suggestion..... Could you take it to McMillan Finance Dept and ask them to help you fill it in? They know exactly what counts and what doesn't! For instance, at my last interview, when things changed from DLA to PIP, they told me " having cancer doesn't really count" have you ever heard anything so ridiculous! However he did say that it's the symptoms and how they make you feel that matter! Seems to be all about how far (if at all) you can walk, make dinner, etc etc they don't even take into account how many appointments you have!

Maybe it would be worth while sending an email asking why it is so early! I know the process takes a long time but surely not 7 months!

    Hi

I think Annette is spot on. I wad going to say the same about talking to Macmillan finance people. Did you keep the letter giving you the award last time? It should have the answers you gave back then and the points they awarded for each one.

  • Hi

Mine arrived last month and decision already given that it will be renewed in January.  I have no idea why yours arrived so early.

I was able to get a DS1500 from the Urology specialist Macmillan nurse at my hospital but then saw the staff at the Macmillan centre who did everything else for me and I got the decision to renew within two weeks.  I know your medical situation is much more complicated but I'm sure that the Macmillan staff at the hospital in your hospital will be able to assist.

In the meantime hopefully we can meet up for a seasonal hot chocolate soon.  Hopefully and are both well relaxed from their holidays and full of happy stories and up for a get together as well.

    All the best,

    Gragon xx

  • Hi Gragon, Yes, about three months before your renewal date is normal! I too was wondering why Lass got hers so early!

It may be just a mistake Lass and if you get someone from McMillan(preferably or specialist nurse) to contact them on your behalf, they may admit the letter has been sent to early by mistake! I do hope so, then at least you can enjoy Christmas!

  • Hiya Lass, how are you?

I had no idea that PIP needed to be renewed. Better look at my letter. How is your garden? I miss pottering outside, though I have replanted a window box and have some bulbs to deal with.
