Hi all

So recently I've been feeling a bit like a fraud (thats the  best description i can come up with). I've got my blue badge and pip payments and extra help with my little one and i feel bad because at the moment i feel ok and have had good results from my most recent scan but i cant help but think I'm taking awah from those that need it more than me.

Does anyone else think like this or am i just weird?

Everyone thought i wouldnt see the the begining of 2018, including me and i know they helped us so very much and my work was brill and people joke that i made it up etc but now im begining to feel guilty, which i know is ridiculous. I think it would be nice to know I'm not crazy

    Hi daisy

I too am "still" on my feet, walking the dog, running about with the kids etc etc but I really have to recommend getting the blue badge. The only places I use it are at the hospital and the beatson cancer hospital because the parking in both those places is very very difficult and given that the appointments I'm going for can be a little trying at times, it is a relief not to have to worry about parking on top of all that.

I would feel pretty dodgy using it at morrisons or stuff like that though.

Och, I slap that blue badge out at every given opportunity! And I use the disabled toilets. Gotta get some perks with this flippin' ailment!

    Cheers

I keep thinking of applying but on the form it says that I need a letter from the doctor to say that I will die within 12 months.  I can’t bring myself to have that put in writing!

My key worker nurse did mine for me...

If you have one maybe they could help you out

  • I told everyone at work that I was terminally ill (as I had been told) but then had ti try and explain that I was now classed as incurable and should not have been told I was terminal.  I think people are expecting me to die any day now and cant understand why I am not!

Not only do I get PIP and use my blue disc at every opportunity I have now started pointing out to people parking in a disabled space without one that they have forgotten to display their blue disc.  Some people thank me and put the disc in the windscreen but a surprising number look shamefaced and say nothing.  If able bodied people can park there and not be embarrassed then I don't think anyone with a disc should worry about it.

    Oh claim EVERYTHING!

Seriously there  are very few perks to having incurable cancer but if you can get GP or Nurse Specialist to complete a DS1500 claim PIP, get a blue badge and/or a disabled travel pass

Do not worry about life expectancy it actually says it would not be unexpected for you to go within 6 months not that you are definitely going to shuffle off this mortal coil by October

I often use my blue badge as I can set off full of beans and then hit a wall while I'm out and grind to a halt.

Thanks for that.  Some people seem to have a key worker but I don’t, so maybe I’ll mention it at the GP’s and see what they can do to help. I have Stage 4 so it’s definitely classed as terminal, so I would hav3 thought I should be able to get one.

    thanks for your help

    love

    Hi

The hospice helped me with my applications for PIP and blue badge. Once you have a blue badge your car tax goes to zero - but you need to apply to DVLA. With a PIP letter you can apply for a card to get a free ticket for a companion at the cinema.

    https://www.ceacard.co.uk/

The National Trust will also give you a companion goes free card if you’re a member. Just give them a ring

there aren’t many perks. Take them where you can is my motto

    xx

on here kindly persuaded me to fill in the form for a blue badge (and esa which I had no idea I was entitled to and is verging on £600 per month I had no idea I could get - thanks Alison!) and I'm so glad I did. Might as well claim for everything you can get. I'm sure we've all paid into the system in our time and we should get back everything we can.... this is exactly what our taxes etc are for after all.
