Hi everyone, I’m Dylan from the Online Community team.
Being cancer-free doesn’t always mean life goes back to how it was before. Often it means finding and adjusting to a “new normal.”
We want to publish a Community blog about living with health conditions after finishing treatment, and we’d love to feature some of your stories.
If you feel comfortable sharing, it would be wonderful to hear:
Any health issues you’ve faced after cancer treatment
How you’ve coped or adapted to these changes
Any advice or encouragement you’d give to others going through something similar
Thank you so much for being part of the conversation, and for any experiences you’re willing to share. Your words could make a real difference to someone else finding their way.
Take care,
Dylan
Hi I'm struggling with the symptoms of long term radiotherapy and have been told i need accept who I'm now. I have recently been let go from work on Medically incapacity which is a devastating outcome as loved my job supporting people.
I have been left with being faeces incontinent which is hard to come terms with. I get tired and breathless so I'm limited what I am able to do. I also have lower back and pelvis pain from were I had the radiation.
I feel isolated as live on my own and I'm not sure how to move on with life.
Hi Boilerman
Thank you so much for taking the time to share some of what you have gone through. It sounds like a very difficult time, having to deal with a new pancreatic cancer diagnosis, ongoing symptoms, and waiting for biopsy results.
I hope you can find some support and comfort here in the Online Community.
I'm sorry to hear that you’re close to rock bottom and unsure where to turn. If you haven’t already, you might find it helpful to speak with someone on our Support Line. They can offer both emotional support and practical guidance, including around work and benefits.
Thank you again for contributing to this discussion. I hope you’ll continue to reach out on the Online Community whenever you need.
Take care,
Dylan
I am so sorry to hear how tough things are for you, Mdp. Thank you for writing about it here. I hope it helps sharing some of what you are going through with other members of this Community.
It can be really hard to know how to move on with life. Have you heard about Macmillan Buddies? This is a free support service where you are buddied up with someone who has similar lived experience to yourself.
If you think this might be helpful, you can request a Buddy by filling in some information here.
It can be really tough living alone but I hope you are able to connect with people who can support you through all of this.
Take care,
Dylan
