A year after treatment and still no hair!

I had chemo, surgery & radiotherapy for breast cancer a year ago. I'm currently taking tamoxifen. I still have hardly any hair growth. The hair on my head is so sparse that my scalp is visible and no eyebrows at all. I am sick of wearing a wig still, and every time I look in the mirror without a wig and see my head with a few wispy strands of hair, I feel so ugly. Had anyone had a similar experience? Might my hair still come back or is this the new me - a lady with a bad comb-over?!

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

Although I haven't had the same experience as you, having not had treatment that would cause me to lose my hair, I can understand how it might make you feel.

Could I suggest that you join the breast cancer group where you'll find lots of people who have had the same treatment as you and who will be able to share their experiences.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
