Loop ileostomy

I have a loop ileostomy, the first part is small and squashed and the second part is tall and round. Unfortunately it’s the small squashed part that is active. The waste gets caught up behind the tall part and pancakes. I’m getting sore as it leaks under the ring. I’m coping but it would have been so much better if the tall round part of the loop had been the active one. Has anyone else had to deal with this, any advice would be so welcome. Thanks Jill11

  • Thank you Sarah, my pouch needs a small adjustment which I’ll do. I’ll order a sample of the fusion sticks and Brava strips online, they sound just the sort of thing that could help me. Thank you so much for the advice much appreciated,

  • I really hope they help

I had problems for a time with my urostomy bag leaking and the items were a real game changer for me-giving me a lot more confidence, along with changing to a convex bag. I notice you are not long out from surgery so I hope your recovery is otherwise going well and this issue will resolve for you. Take care.

  • Thank you for your kind words Sarah, I’m starting to feel better now, I’m told about 3 months is the normal recovery time so I’ve a while to go yet. Best wishes Jill x

  • I had a different surgery with a longer recovery time as it was more major, but it’s good to read that you are starting to feel better now. Once you are used to dealing with your stoma and understanding more about how it works for you personally, things definitely get better!
