I was diagnosed with Anal cancer 3 years ago and treatment followed during Lockdown1. I was given a temporary loop stoma. I have now developed a parastomal hernia and am looking for a hernia repair and colostomy reversal.
I am nervous about being incontinent and have the option of a permanent stoma rather than reversal. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Has anyone had the reversal and regretted it?
thann you in advance
I ate the beige diet recommended by my stoma nurses and I kept a food diary.
I had an Ileostomy so my intake and variety was different to a colostomy. I mainly grazed and drank lots of fluid I had Whoopi for thirteen months by which time my diet was colourful and enjoyable sadly tho no sweetcorn
Have your team said that you will be a successful candidate for a reversal?
I think if you wrote down your concerns and gave your team a phone call you can then be assured of what you will face with a reversal
My stoma didn’t really stop me from doing anything, travel and eating out. I lived life to the full and was considering keeping it
My reversal went well , my diet now is limited to food that I know will not cause issues
Christmas I overindulge eating a ridiculous mixture and I paid the price I’ve settled it back to my new normal now Hopefully
Ann
