Hi I had an op in May but it went wrong & after a week I was back in hospital as an emergency. I woke up after the second op with a six inch (stapled up) gash in my tummy & having to have a bag attached. That was at the end of June after a month in hospital.
I am generally not in pain although it can be very uncomfortable verging on painful at times, especially when on the move
Sleep is my biggest problem but i daren't take sleeping tablets or I might regain consciousness to find an unpleasant accident . This has happened twice, fortunately not damaging the mattress.
I now sleep with the stoma bag, old sheets round that, an old T shirt and pajama on top of that. I average 3 visits to the toilet per night but still manage to get about 5 hours sleep a night. I count my blessings, but if anyone can suggest any way to improve on this I would welcome suggestions!!
hi spondulix, any stoma product with manuka honey added is very kind and soothing to the skin.. Your Stoma supply company can help you here.
Before I knew about the above I applied plain yoghurt to the sore area around the stoma - a bit messy but it did sooth the skin. Eating it helps any adesion/intestine flareups as well.

hi Spondulix, you could just smear the yog. on your sore skin - no need to eat it. Also my Stoma bag hydra frames come with manuka honey in them. These I get free from my Stoma suppliers. Yes manuka is very expensive to buy - I hate honey.

Hi Spondulix I’m sorry to hear about your problems. The one part of your experience I can really relate to is leaks. They made me so miserable and happened at work, resulting in me having to run off, strip in the loos etc! My hospital - and hopefully yours too - is an Aladdin’s cave of every brand and type of bag, spray and accessory. My amazing nurse bundled me off with loads of new things to try after I came to see her at my wit’s end. I quit the Dansac immediately and am on fantastic OakMed now. Never another leak! Salts aloe rings great for sore or irritated skin. Very best of luck :)
What is OakMed? salts aloe? ZZZ now so apologies for no quick reply.
