Hi my dad came out of hospital this week with a stoma, following having 12 inches of colon removed .

He has been told he needs 3 months worth of chemotherapy as they are treating it as a stage 3 cancer due to 3 of the lymph’s being cancerous .
Does anyone have advice about supplements treatments  to boost his immune system prior or during chemotherapy safe with a stoma . Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Hi . I just dropped by and noticed you've not had a reply to this post as yet. By my answering it'll "bump" your post back up to the top so hopefully you'll get some answers.

I see you're a member of other forums and posting and receiving replies so you might get some answers on them. (I've a different type of cancer and not had chemotherapy so I can't help) It might be a good idea to take a look at the Chemotherapy forum.

Wishing you and your Dad all the best, B x

  • Hi. I had a colostomy in July 2019. I had 6 months of chemotherapy after my surgery. You have regular blood tests during your treatment. Your oncologist will tell you if you need to be taking any supplements. My oncologist told me to take vitamin D as my calcium was low. It probably will be different for everyone so I would discuss it with your oncologist to be sure you are not taking anything not recommended.

so appreciated, I love that quote from Roy T Bennett xx

  • Thank you , he has the oncologist appointment on Tuesday, I was wondering if he could take the vitamin d 1 squirt under the tongue as obviously can’t ingest capsules with the stoma .
Thanks for taking the time to reply x
