3 Stomas?

Hi,

I have been admitted to hospital with a bowel obstruction caused by adhesions/scar tissue. The surgeon told me this morning that I would need another stoma. I have a colostomy and an urostomy. I haven't heard of people having 3 stomas before and I was wondering if anyone else has?

  • Hi  and sorry to hear that you’ve had an obstruction. I’m a bit puzzled by the 3 stoma thing? Will your colostomy become redundant and a new one formed in a different place in the bowel before things pass through where the obstructions been?

Are you still in hospital? If so I hope you are feeling better and able to get back home soon

    Take care

  • Hi Karen,

Thank you for your reply and I came home this morning.

The consultant told me I have Radiation Enteritis? I asked him if it was the same as Pelvic Radiation Disease? And he said they call it Radiation Enteritis, so it is by his reply.

He told me I would have 2 colostomy (I don't where, I am not that big) and in 6 months I would have 2. I  told him knowing my luck he would say something like "tough luck love, you're stuck with 3". He said it was his intention to go back to two. However, intentions are all well and good but they don't offer a promise.

I am seeing him in clinic in 6 weeks and he will be getting in touch with gynae and urology. I told him I don't want this to happen but his nurse practitioner shouted at me and told me it would save my life, to which I pointed out I would probably be in bed.

I am on a light and liquid diet for a few days,

    Lisa
