Hi everyone
can anyone advise re Corning with a stoma.
My husband had APR surgery mid September and we are getting used to life with a stoma. Obviously at first he wore loose jogging bottoms but he tried his jeans first the first time yesterday and is now moaning that they have put the stoma in the wrong place and he’s not going to be able to wear his jeans ever again. The stoma nurse sited it before surgery so he was hopeful it would be ok .
whilst the actual stoma is above his waist band but the circular adhesive part goes right onto his waist where his waistband and belt would be.
How does everyone cope with this issue. Are there any hints and tips to make it possible to wear normal clothes.
For the record hes a young slim 61 yo and lives in jeans and T shirts .(no-one believes his age) Elasticated trousers were not really in his plan
Help please as Im bearing the brunt of his frustrations
Thank you
Bx
I hope someone can assist with this.my stoma was marked up on the morning of my op and I was asked loads of questions including what clothing I prefered wearing, where my waistband usually sat and then I was asked to sit, stand bend over ,lie etc to see how I bent.
I have also read post on here from gentlemen who wear braces.I believe there are some quite funky ones around
All the best for some assistance

I used to wear jeans and a tee shirt every day but, since surgery nearly four years ago, I gave up trying to wear the jeans. The waistband and belt just got in the way of the pouches (I have two) and although braces were OK they were a consideration when the pouch needed attention. Since then I wear black or dark blue Slazenger trousers bought from a local store. Crease-free, not shiny, a simple cord/stretch waistband, plain bottoms, cheap as chips, comfortable and capable of being worn casually or formally (with a suit jacket and good shirt and tie). Comfort is the name of the game and I couldn't give a monkey's if anyone wanted to stare at my trousers for some peculiar reason. I believe that most people notice a decent watch, clean shoes and a clean shaven face.

Hello Bella12
Petite size 10, stoma operation few months ago definitely wearing jeans again.
My old jeans were too big, so went out shopping last month and invested in a couple of new pairs, nothing expensive.
My stoma just below my wait and some jeans really didn't fit comfortably. So I tried jeans with a slightly higher fit and they were perfect. I am very confident that's men's jeans will also have a higher rise which might suit your husband better.
Also when I position my stoma bag, I slant it inwards a little, so when I wear trousers it fits flat and comfortable across my stomach. I also wear a sleeveless vest under all my dresses, jeans and trousers. I tuck it in nice and flat and it keeps everything neatly in place. My jeans are fitted and you can't see the bag. Also no disruption to output.
If it was my husband I would order lots of jeans to the house, some new T shirts and a few snug fitting vest tops to go underneath. Some open shirts the type you don't tuck in, would also look trendy and disguise a stoma.
The right jeans are out there, good luck finding them.
