I’ve got a colostomy, had it for almost 3 years now, I seem to be ok usually but I’ve just passed quite a bit of mucus from back body! This happens from time to time but this time there was blood on loo roll on wiping! I’m in a bit of a panic, as usual it’s a Saturday and can’t get in touch with colorectal nurse till Monday! It’ll be my first yearly scans in January, I was scared stiff to start with, now this!

Oh Moira (Three )
Another thing to be worried about and typical it’s the weekend! No experience to share as I’ve not had this, or the mucus happening. Hope you can get in touch with the nurse tomorrow and get some reassurance. Was it just a one off with the blood after wiping?

Hi Sarah,
yes,it’s the first time this has happened to me, the mucus is one of the things I’ve had to accept as normal but this is scary! Of course lol I can thing of is the cancer returning! One minute I’m writing Xmas lists, excited because my son and his family are going to visit from the USA, after not seeing them for a year, then this! Always something and always on a weekend! Hopefully my nurse can reassure me over the phone, we’re in the middle of a bus strike! It never rains but it pours!

It’s always scary, isn’t it when something happens like this? When I became ill in February this year my first thought was that the cancer was back and I was so scared. Turned out my bile duct was blocked, and it was nothing to do with cancer, but the fear was so real! It’s just the first thing our minds do to even after all this time.
One of my daughters was telling me they’re in the middle of a prolonged bus strike just now-such a hassle as she usually goes on the bus to work, and is spending more than double on the train.
How lovely to have your son and his family over for Christmas-hope you’ve got this sorted and it’s nothing to worry about so you can enjoy everything properly.

Yes Sarah, you’re right, life is going along , then out of the blue, wham, all of our worries are back! I’ve also had bile duct problems, a hip replacement and I’m waiting for a second hip replacement, all horrible and very painful but nothing compared to this worry!
This bus strike is set to go on until Xmas and like your daughter, my oldest son is paying a fortune on trains and goodness knows what on footwear! I want to support them but it’s hard at times!
I’ll let you know what happens when I phone the nurse tomorrow! Thanks Sarah,
Moira xx
My daughter has an extra, longer, walk now from the train since she can’t go on the bus so that will be pants in the really bad weather-she works in Newcastle. Makes it a longer day for her now too. I’m venturing out to Morrisons today but will have my scooter-otherwise I’m never out!
Have you got a date for your next hip replacement Moira? I was amazed at my friend having one a few months ago and being out of hospital the next day! She went private as she’d been waiting for such a long time.
Hope you get on ok phoning up tomorrow-yes, let me know how you get on.

Hi Sarah,
I got in touch with colorectal nurse today and after a lot of talking, she’s decided it doesn’t raise any red flags but wants me to get a blood test and for me to see a doctor face to face! I’m feeling much more reassured but, of course, will not relax until scans are done! Thank you for your help Sarah.
I don’t have a date for my next hip operation yet but I heard the surgeon, before doing the other hip, say I could go home the next day! My blood pressure kept dropping, so it ended up being 4 days, but it’s remarkable how quick the turnover is!

Hi Moira
I think you’ll definitely feel better about having bloods done and seeing the doctor face to face. Good news that the nurse doesn’t think there are any red flags, but I can understand it’s anxiety inducing.
I was speaking on the phone today with my friend who had her hip done-she’s doing really well and feeling so much better now after the op. I think it’s amazingly brave to go through that op-for some reason it scares me more than my own surgery did! I hope you don’t have too long to wait for this second one to be done.
