After my stoma was very active, I passed mucus, which happens from time to time, and I had a bit of a discharge , again not unusual for me! This time, however, instead of it lasting a few days, it's gone on for about 10 days so far! It's not much and is yellowish, not smelly or anything! Has anyone else had this?
Hope everyone is well,
Moira x
Hi Ann,
Its nice to hear from you! It's just this same problem that keeps cropping up, there's nothing for weeks, then it starts all over again! Once the stoma clinic discharged me, I feel like I'm stranded! Trying to get a new appointment is so time consuming but I think I might have to do it! Of course, now I'm on yearly scans, I tend to think the cancer is back with every symptom! I could phone my colorectal nurse but that's scary in itself! Maybe I'm just over reacting, as usual!
I've now been put on the waiting list to get my other hip replacement, after that I'm expecting to be bionic and at least feeling 20 years younger! Just need a steamer to iron out the creases! How about you And, is life good these days?
Best Wishes,
Moira x
Hi Moira
Its horrible to have this reoccurrence of the mucus and I really hope that you can have some help or advice.
I don’t think your overreacting at all and hope that your colorectal nurses can support you It may be worth a phone call. Put those big girl pants on and phone them.
I know what you mean about the cancer coming back. I’m sick of thinking about it. Two primaries is double the chance.
I push it away when it pops in my head.
Bionic hips sounds amazing Good luck with them. You’ll be flying around in no time
we are plodding on Moira, we are downsizing the inside of our home. It’s full to the maximum so it’s a long slow time consuming job, but we’ve got plenty of time so we do a couple of hours a day. It’s very satisfying seeing my car boot stash growing and the storage areas looking a little better
Have a good weekend Moira x

I generally empty my ileostomy bag each time I go for a wee.
I also had in the early days unexpectedly passed a small glob of yellow mucus several times a day into pants!.
So now when I do the bag and wee I also try to push out any mucus and generally get a bit but by regular clearance I'm not getting any unexpected mucus.
Colorectal nurse says its quite normal.
The briefing materials I was given say this is quite normal, and nothing to worry about.
I get a clear, odourless gunge from time to time, and have not been able to spot any pattern to it (only been wearing a stoma for nine months, mind). I sometimes find it convenient to remove it with a used toothbrush.
My real annoyance is that this stuff has no medical name, so I am trying to encourage use if the term "stercorium".
All the best!
Hi Ann,
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, time just gets away from me! I phoned the colorectal nurse and I've got an appointment in a couple of weeks with the stoma nurse! All I wanted was a bit of reassurance, by phone, but that's too easy! The discharge disappeared after a couple of days but now it's back again! It seems to be when my stoma is over active, that's when it happens! Oh well, I'll find out why in a couple of weeks!
Hope you're downsizing is going well! I could do with a bigger house! How I brought 3 boys up here, I'll never know, I seem to have so much STUFF these days! Maybe I need a car boot sale too, or a rubbish tip!
Take care, Ann,

Hi Moira
Thats positive news at last seeing your nurses will hopefully explain why this happens
Do you think a food diary might help?
There may be something that causes your overactivity.
I am still having flare ups with certain foods and it’s basic food nothing fancy when I go for a treat the lopermide is at the ready
The clearing has stopped for now it’s sparks my cough the dust aggravated it. So I’ll get a builders mask and continue when it cools down
I have a start for the car boot. It’s a working progress
sending you a hug
Ann
