Anyone here rides horses for 3+ hours at a time….?
Any tips of food and bag comfort…?
Mir what foods to keep you going without bulk and keeping bag comfortable with waistbands and jodhpurs ets and not having to empty or if you do how not to get it on John’s and how to clean it in the wild etc etc……!
Hi Cuppatea
It’s great to hear that you are keeping fit. I’m not a horse rider but it might help to know what type you have as diets are different for both.
Do you have an Ileostomy or colostomy?
Im sure others can give tips on both. Lots here have had experience of sorting out in the wild. It’s all about the planning isn’t it?
i had an Ileostomy which needed emptying often as I didn’t like it swollen I had no issues emptying anywhere really and cleaning I used an old isotonic bottle with fresh water in for a swoosh and freshen But there’s lots here that can help with all of your questions
Enjoy your riding
Ann
Hi Cuppatea,
I'm new to the forum and I've just seen your post. After 5 months I hope you have got used to riding with a bag.
I've got an Ileostomy and have been back riding for some time now. As soon as I was able really. Mucking out keeps me fit too. As a bloke I'm still trying to get the right breeches with a high enough waist band to sit above my bag, it seems there is a lot more choice for women!
What I've found important is to keep hydrated and I'm learning how long I can get away with not emptying my bag. I have the type that has clips on to attach an elastic belt. This helps a lot with feeling secure.
I've been very lucky so far with food as I've had no blockages or any real dramas. Protein bars are good when out and about but I make sure they get well chewed.
Enjoy your riding and good luck.
Morning
It’s great to hear your positive post. Hydration is really important with an Ileostomy and I found taking those isotonic drinks a great way to keep on top of it when out and about. I always bought the own brand type they did the job
Best wishes
Ann
