Hi everyone
I really want to do exercise with a weighted hula hoop , I got Roma the stoma March 2021 , has anyone been told they can’t do this with a stoma ???
many help would be great
thanks E
Ha ha Roma the Stoma love your name choice.
It’s a really interesting question that I really am not sure. If your a keen hooper then you must be able to tell if it’s causing a problem. I’d be tempted to where a support as insurance but I had convex type which gave my stoma protection. When I had the flat type early days I bought a seat belt cover that protected it.
im sure you’ll be hooping soon

Hello Stomagirl
I suggest you run this past your Stoma nurse if you have one, or your surgical team if you don't, for them to adivise you on the risk of causing a hernia. I have one across my belly running through the stoma point caused by 'too much too soon' after my colonoscopy (also in March 2021). Perhaps the risk has passed for you, but might be best to check.
Hey my surgeon sd there was no hernia so with support belt I hopefully will be ok , I’m seeing stoma nurse this week so I’ll check with her anyway
thank you for advice

Hi Elaine
That’s great you’ll be able to get that hula spinning.
I did the pelvic floor before and every day after my LAR as I grew stronger I made exercises tougher. I’ve been reversed and back on the baby pelvic tilts.
They’ve had amazing affect on my core.
I’d definitely recommend them be good for your hulas
Happy hooping the hula

Hey Ann, I’ve had 2 major abdominal surgeries since March 2021, and it’s 6 months since my liver resection, so really want to get fit now , ,I will do the pelvic tilts as part of my morning stretches , drs are happy with me ,although no reversal for me at the moment, my surgeon thinks my body has been through enough and tbh my tummy muscles and scar /adhesions are concerning re more surgery soo it’s case of making best of what I’ve recovered from
best wishes to you too
Elaine
Hi Elaine
It sounds as if your determined to get yourself fit That’s all you need to make the most of what you have.
The pelvic tilts have been a saver for me to be honest I was paranoid about a hernia so I never missed doing them. I got them from my physio in hospital. They’ helped my core strength and now I’m back just doing them flat on the floor or bed as although the op was minor in comparison to the LAR it still bruised and weakened my six pack. Ha ha. It’s hidden under fat but my surgeon assured me that I have one !
Hope all goes well for you
Ann
