As most know here I had a LAR August last year and before the op I was told two to three months however with the Covid situation it would be six
I had the blue dye test January that showed I would need an EAU to check that all was clear for a reversal. I was also told at my follow up that they thought that whilst under a GA if all was clear they would reverse me.
I thought that makes perfect sense as why have two lots of GA but it would mean I wouldn’t know before going in if I was able to be reversed. So I was told I would need a pre op
That was January
Previously my surgeon had said that reversals are best at two months and a maximum of six. Twelve months was not so successful
So here I am a couple of weeks away from the year and all my diary dates that were planned have been deleted. There’s not going to be a colonoscopy August because I haven’t been reversed. I’m waiting for a CT scan appointment and my CEA levels are due August
I am in a state of limbo really
How long did others wait before having a reversal and if over twelve months was it really difficult to gain bowel control?
Im seriously thinking of not bothering and booking a holiday!
Well I am home.
i was up at five in the morning
I literally had seven hours with no water then I was given 50ml per hour. My head was thumping I was told to wait to see if there was a bed. Two o’clock the head of beds found me a bed. Then I was told that I was last on the list and there was a op in front of me and it was hours. The theatre may be shut. Four fifteen I got the gown on and I was in my consultant and anaesthetist were lovely thank goodness!
Then taken to a surgical ward with no experience of bowel treatments. Had a nice private room sadly there was a lad next door watching his phone on full volume that stopped at 2am and went back on at 6am.
needless to say I am so pleased to be home. I have no meds. The ward Doctor said “if you get constipated take a laxative if you have pain go to A & E”
I asked for my dressing to be changed hours later the nurse changed it said that the wound was huge and stapled So then I had to wait for instructions My hubby and daughter came to collect me I couldn’t get the discharge note
I’m hoping that things improve
oh and this is laughable I ordered banana, custard , vanilla ice cream , mash potatoes as I didn’t think steak and kidney pie was wise
They delivered mash potato, bowl of custard, strawberry ice cream with a knife a fork with a note there’s no bananas
I was going to try the BRAT diet that was recommended banana, rice, applesauce and toast
this is hilarious our poor NHS are on their knees they asked me for one of my happy pills they must be really struggling

Hi Ann,
what a horrific time you've had and to be sent home with no meds and no advice is downright cruel! I really hope that now you're home you'll be feeling better, at least you'll get some sleep in your own bed! I'm sure when you phone your team on Monday they'll be able to advice you but if you're in bad pain, then don't hesitate to phone 111! Keep us updated when you can, try and get some well deserved rest now,
Take care,
Moira x
Thanks Kath & Moira
i thought the same however it’s 4.30 and I’m yet to sleep. I’m in a lot of pain so I don’t know if that’s normal or not. Hopefully better soon. I did have a cancellation so I think I was just in done and out with no support. Thank goodness I’ve got this space.
Hope all are well
sending you a thank you hug
Ann
Oh gosh Ann, that sounds awful! Take good care of yourself and hope you can get some help with everything.
Sarah xx
Oh Ann,
this is terrible, don't you have any codeine in the house? I know you were a cancellation but you deserve better than this! I hope someone on here has had a reversal and can advise you! Maybe you should phone 111, I hate to think of you being in so much pain!
Take care ,
Moira x
Hi Artsie. Glad you’re home although you sounded to have been rushed out the door and turn the lights out behind you please. I’m surprised it’s a big wound? I thought they just snipped round the stoma, joined it back up and popped it back in. Mine was stitched with like a drawstring - my surgeon called it the ‘cats bum’ stitch!
I think I was discharged with paracetamol and codeine but was in for 5 days after the Cornish pasty and gravy set me back a bit. I had quite an uncomfortable feeling in my chest which can be caused by air that they pump into you to give them more room and peppermint tea can help with that.
Glad you’ve managed to get a bit of sleep - take lots of care and lots of rest
Karen x
Thanks Karen I have got staples! They’re pulling me together I can feel them with the swelling that’s going on. Or was a rush I don’t know. I’ll phone my team. The hospital sent me out with Dioxtyl prevention of constipation! Paracetamols have never caused me constipation and I had no pain relief in there apart from two Tramadol at 4am. I need to check with my team as to what meds are apt
I’ve slept well on the sofa that’s going to be my bed for time being.
Hope you’re having a good day. Weathers definitely autumnal x
