As most know here I had a LAR August last year and before the op I was told two to three months however with the Covid situation it would be six
I had the blue dye test January that showed I would need an EAU to check that all was clear for a reversal. I was also told at my follow up that they thought that whilst under a GA if all was clear they would reverse me.
I thought that makes perfect sense as why have two lots of GA but it would mean I wouldn’t know before going in if I was able to be reversed. So I was told I would need a pre op
That was January
Previously my surgeon had said that reversals are best at two months and a maximum of six. Twelve months was not so successful
So here I am a couple of weeks away from the year and all my diary dates that were planned have been deleted. There’s not going to be a colonoscopy August because I haven’t been reversed. I’m waiting for a CT scan appointment and my CEA levels are due August
I am in a state of limbo really
How long did others wait before having a reversal and if over twelve months was it really difficult to gain bowel control?
Im seriously thinking of not bothering and booking a holiday!
Hi Ann,
Good to know that you are getting some help now and your surgeon sounds great, but why have you got the hole where the stoma was?
I thought of you and Karen's chart last night. I was taking the Prevu bowel cleanser for a 3 year colonoscopy this morning. It was definitely a case of number 7 on the chart and I found that you really don't need a heated toilet seat if you sit there long enough!!
Keep it up, you are getting there
Cheers, John
Hi John
Yes bowel prep definitely stops the need for a heated toilet seat. Hope all goes well with your colonoscopy
Mr Randall explained that the stoma was there a year. When it was removed cut rejoined and put back in place the place where it was stayed empty. He added the body doesn’t like gaps and fills it needs to heal from the inside out so i must keep the dressings on until it heals the nurses at my GPS will check it’s healing and make sure there’s no infection The staples are out.
My BM this morning was a 4. So I was purely delighted plus I left the house at ten to my GPS had two different hospital trips so didn’t get back until 2.30. I was so pleased no trips to the toilet though I did take lots of spare stuff just in case He was really pleased that I was regaining control.

Hi Ann,
Great news that you're doing so well, you've certainly had a rough time of it! Your surgeon is a star!
I get my results today, my GP is phoning me at 3-30 pm, I'm a bit more positive, so hopefully we'll be on the train to London on Thursday!
Take care,
Moira x
I've spoken to GP and he says no sign of cancer spreading to liver, thank God! There are gall stones and also an unexplained widening of bile duct, so he's referring me to liver surgeons and expects to to be having my gall bladder removed! I'm so relieved it's not cancer that I don't care!
Yes, London will be a bit of a nightmare but I'm sure we'll enjoy it!
Take care,
Moira x
Three. Sounds like a bit more treatment involved but no cancer which is great news. We are also going to London on Thursday although it was planned before the recent events. As you say it’s going to be busy but I’m sure we’ll still have a good time x
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
