Waterproofing

My surgery is scheduled for beginning of May when I'll have a hysterectomy, lymph nodes and bowel removed. The nurse advised me yesterday to buy waterproof sheets so I'm looking for recommendations. I'm leaning towards those that are flat and have elastic at the corners but I also need something that will cover a reclining chair for when I spend some or all of the night there.

Any recommendations please?

  • Not sure about sheets but I was advised to buy a pack of puppy pads from the pet shop to pop under me.they worked well and  I also cut them up to use as extra padding until my barbie bum had healed

  • Thanks Kath. Not something that had occurred but a good flexible suggestion.

  • I did get a mattress cover as well.some cheaper ones felt like crisp plastic and as I didnt fancy getting all hot and uncomfortable,I opted to spend a little more at good old m and s.theirs felt softer, its fabric, doesnt crinkle when you turn over and doesnt make you all hot.

All the best for your op.do let us know how you get on.

  • Mine was given to me by my stoma nurse-it’s made of fabric rather than plastic so doesn’t crinkle, and it’s really good but it doesn’t cover the whole bed. I used to use the training bed pads (dry nites I think) for toddlers but they are really expensive so I moved to puppy pads which are excellent and cheaper!
