Mucous leakage from bottom.

Before I had my Stoma operation ( Loop Colostomy )  I was told by my surgeon that I would have leakage from my bottom and it would be mucous.
She was not joking.
I find sanitary towels do not soak up the oily discharge and so it causes a uncomfortable situation regularly with wetness.
I have taken to wearing a nappy for my own confidence.
Any advice or tips gratefully accepted.
Thanks.

  • Great to know nothing stopped you from enjoying yourselves!

Like you, I believe our brain controls our body's functions: auto-suggestion, with a lot of practice might be the solution for us. After all they do it in yoga!

  • I have found that when I get up I need to go to the loo as well.

  • Bagpuss the Third, you made me think of the folding travel potty I 'd bought when my daughter was small: it was such a brilliant idea: it came with the plastic bags to put in the potty , all you needed was a quiet area, toilet paper/antiseptic wipes and a bin! All 3 of us should start something like this for adults! Slight smile Although I wouldn't be able to sit on it with my septic arthritic knee, unless it was put on a log in the woods... :))

Well! OK! A private area on a boat cannot be easy to find, especially with a party going on...

It could be fun for you , if only you practice that auto-suggestion method...No guarantee it would work, but we cannot again let the beast take over your life!

    Good luck!

  • Thanks Bri.  I'll think about the folding potty.  Trouble is now you've told us you couldn't get a patent for yourself!  Your comment really is helpful, in a strange way.  Having just run through the numerous pitfalls of the boat-trip in an e-mail to a chum and taking your comment into account I think that the beast has the potential to take over the boat trip, in the same way that someone collapsing might.  Because the complaint isn't self-announcing I can see me explaining over and over why I'm hogging the loo, needing to lie down and so on.  As I said to my chum it begs the question 'why did he come? Surely he knew what to expect.'  Incidentally I do go to restaurants and we plan to overnight in an hotel sixty miles from home on Sanday - it's just the boat.

  • I've never thought of doing it in yoga.  Strawberry or Fruits of the Forest?  :-)

  • Hehe! The hotel stay sounds grand but like you I'd think  twice about the boat. You could be lucky and nothing happens... Whatever you decide, I think you just have to follow your intuition!

  • Thanks Bri - it's useful to know that I'm not being over-cautious.  I do agree that doing things under pressure against one's better judgement often turns out badly.  Thanks again.  I'm practising mind-control as we speak so I'd better post this.

  • I expected some sort of reaction to my large meal yesterday but not the bad leakages from my bottom again. They were bad. Bubble & Squeak my stoma bag kicked off just before bed time. I changed it and went to bed. During the night it was very active and I had to change it again this morning. While changing it diarrhoe  oozed out and caused a slight mess on my underpants. Stools are still hard so more of the preparation will be mixed up and drank with a dose of Lime Juice to make it palleatable. Porridge and Imodium for breakfast again.

  • Oh dear! Chromeplated! What a nuisance! I hope you still enjoyed breakfast and lunch!

I use to hate the drainable bags when I had a colostomy, but now with the ileostomy, I am so glad to have this option. So much less hassle than changing the bag each time. You can keep them on for 2 days, empty them when necessary - with the ileostomy that translates as very often! - Not pleasant but at least rapid and easy! That also saves on bags and bin bags!

    Worth a try!
