I absolutely hate the word "bag" being used to describe someone with a stoma. "She/he has a bag on" . They are pouches, not bags. The box they arrive in says 'pouches'. Maybe just me. Lol Rolling eyesJoy

  • Hi.I dont mind bag or pouch.the one I find odd is"he/she is fitted with a stoma"always sounds like you are putting new parts on a car.RoflRofl

    have a good day

  • I’ve actually never used the word pouch, but agree with the “fitted with a stoma”! I don’t mind bag-I never really gave it any thought, and when I speak to my supply company they always talk about which bags I need to order. I refer to myself as a double bagger too!

  • Just me then Thinking. The only time I used the word 'bag' was in hospital when I joked that I got a bag for life and I didn't have to pay 10p! Rolling eyes. I agree with the 'fitted with a stoma' though.

  • Other ladies I met before surgery always referred to their bags, so I guess that’s why I did the same, and I’ve used the bags for life phrase and bag lady when talking about myself! Fitted with a stoma sounds really odd to me-not something I’d never say.

  • Not just you Kath. I've corrected quite a few people. "You are fitted with a pacemaker, you have a stoma formed" is my go to phrase. I think people don't realise that a stoma is made from what you already have lol. Rolling eyes

  • I have a Whoopi.
I wasn’t keen on bag as they’re not a bag. It looks more like a back pack for a teddy there’s no handles. I prefer pouch but have just given up as people don’t know what I’m talking about if I say pouch. Also agree with being formed not fitted. It’s all me no spare parts.
