I work at Wilko. One day I was on the shop floor and  my stoma let out an almighty fart. There was a customer standing nearby. Instead of looking round quickly to see who was responsible, she just slowly turned her head and looked at me with utter disgust.. I  still see her now and wonder if she remembers

  • We need a sense of humour living with a stoma.I’m smiling too.Love Jane x

  • Definitely. Whoopi is my life saver but she does give me a telling off if I eat the wrong things. Volcanic eruption four in morning. Sometimes I just smile and really don’t know where to go or what to do with it.

  • Is Whoopi permanent ?

  • Em. Well she was reversible but there’s an issue. So one day they’ll. perform an EAU and if they think it’s okay then they’ll reverse if not they’ll leave it. It’s up in the air. I’ve been told I’m a candidate for LARS so they’ve also said I will have support if reversed. I’ve asked if I can’t manage reversal then can I have colostomy. They’ve agreed.
The NHS are amazing and the bowel team really seem cohesive. We are so lucky.

Thats my worst nightmare. I’m going to Alicante end of March. Think I’ll wear black double tape and pray.
Im still going. But I’m very very concerned.

  • That’s good that you have a cohesive team.I was so lucky to go to Bristol for surgery as they are in the top 5 in the country for urology. My surgeon was amazing and I can’t thank enough for saving my life.Love Jane x

  • I’m Bristol but the BRI. I read your bio you were in Southmead which is the best for urology I was BRI for Bowel. I live near Severn bridge English side. I used to ride to Wales when I was fit !

  • That’s interesting.I’m thinking of moving nearer to Bristol in the future. My partner John has a rare muscle disease and sees the neuro muscular team at Southmead.I used to live in Bristol in the 1980’s.I had my first cystoscopy at the BRI.

  • Try not to get stressed about it Ann. It only happened to me on my first flight, and I think a lot of it was down to my stress levels. I was fine on my other flights. Usually with my colostomy and thicker output I would feel quite safe-but things were looser than normal as I was quite uptight. Don’t let it put you off at all. You deserve to get away to Spain! x
