Hello everyone,
I am hoping someone can offer me some advice.
I have two stomas (colostomy and an urostomy) and I get trouble with the colostomy due to scar tissue which has caused bowel obstructions.
Today, I have constipation. My colostomy is slow even though I have take a couple of Laxido. The constipation is giving me dreadful trapped wind and I have burped so much today, I should get a job on a wind farm! Plus I have a bad back which doesn’t help.
How can I get rid of the trapped wind? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking of contacting the stoma nurses tomorrow.
Sending you all good vibes,
Lisa

Hi @LisaCardiff. I was recommended peppermint tea or cordial in hospital to relieve the trapped wind after keyhole surgery? x
Hi Kareno62,
Thank you for your reply.
I have peppermint mint. However, because I mainly drink this (as opposed to normal tea), it is turning on me.
I will ask my dad to get some peppermint cordial when he goes shopping.
My problem is because of the damage caused by radiotherapy and several major surgeries, which has created a lot of scar tissue.
I hope you are doing well,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I have two stomas as well since November 2021 last year due to the recurrent of cervical cancer. And my bowels are damaged by radiotherapy in 2019 and ovarian cancer surgery last year.
Have similar symptoms like you, burping, trap wind, painful cramps. WINDeze gel tablets are very good for trap wind. It's not perfect solution but helps.
I take 2 Laxidos a day but still struggling with regular movements. My urostomy is asleep for usually 2 days then get painful cramps. And it's quite hard so pancaked and get leakage often. Started eating tinned prunes to soften it.
How are you doing with urostomy? I had leaking issues when came back home but it's sorted now. Do you wear leg bag all the time? I struggle a bit with leg bag when walking. Using net but sliding down when I walk and hard to fix it when you out and about.
Feel free to ask anything. Hope we can stay in touch and support one another.
Best wishes,
Dorota, West Yorkshire xxxx
Hi ,
Thank you for helpful and kind reply and I am sorry I have just replied, I don't log in everyday.
I am sorry you have been through so much
Touch wood, my urostomy is fine and the leaks I tend to have is I forget to drain the urostomy bag and at night if I am watching television in bed and I fall asleep and I have forgotten to attach myself to night bag, which causes a leak. I have an inco-pad on my bed with a towel on top.
My colostomy is a constant course of worry. I have had a lot of bowel obstructions and I am traumatised. In April I was told I have radiation enteritis and the colorectal surgeon terrified me. I take 3 to 4 Laxido a day and I am very careful what I eat.I was told in September I have a prolapsed pelvis due to the damage caused by radiotherapy. My nerves are shot by everything.
Yes please, we will keep in touch as it is lovely to chat with someone who understands.
Love and good vibes,
Lisa
