I've been having quite a lot of diarrhea this last week or so, I've been very careful what I eat, stopped taking stool softeners, even taken immodium, after 2 days of no output at all, I thought I'd be safe to start a normal diet again, it wasn't! I've just had another bout! Jelly Babies aren't helping this time! We're going to London for a few days next week, it was suppy to be a much needed break, now I'm worried about going! Any ideas please?

  • Hi , Moira. So sorry to read what you're going through. I'm not from this group, just dropped by so hope the members here will be along soon to advise.

I'd say give your Stoma nurse a call but do they cover a normal shift at weekends? Otherwise it may be an idea to call the Macmillan Support helpline, freephone number shown below, and speak to a nurse.

I really hope you get sorted and have your well earned London trip!

    All the best, B xx

  • Thank you so much for your reply, it seems to have stopped for the moment! What's the betting it goes the other way and I end up constipated? I think it's got to be diet related but I will phone my stoma nurse on Monday!

So looking forward to London, fingers crossed Fingers crossed things will have settled down,

    Again, many thanks,

  • this must be rotten for you Moira. When I had my illiostomy Jellies, marshmellows and boiled eggs helped to thicken things a lot. I had a high output illiostomy which meant I struggled to keep hydrated. This impacted on my kidney disease. Lucozade Sport helped along with St John's mixture. This was salt, sugar and bicarbonate. This helped me retain electrolytes at a good level and helped my immune system.
