Hello,
I hope I've got the terminology right, but my mum is due surgery in a couple of weeks and has been told that she will have 2 permanent bags. She had a temporary stoma 2 years ago which she coped OK with but she is understandably very upset about the idea of 2 permanent bags.
Is there someone out there who has had a similar experience with any words of wisdom? I hate to see her struggling like she is.
Thank You for your time,
Sarah
LisaCardiff. Are you able to offer any advice please? X
Hello Sarah1407,
Sorry I have just picked up your message.
I have 2 stomas (colostomy and an urostomy) which I have had since 2016.
The urostomy I manage fine but the colostomy I really struggled with. When I came back to the ward after the operation I refused to change it or clean up. I know that doesn't sound very nice but I now realise I was traumatised and depressed.
When I came home from hospital I had to deal with it. The colostomy was going off all of the time and wore me out. Then in 2019 and through 2020 I started having bowel obstructions due to scar tissue/adhesions.
In April this year (after another bowel obstruction) I was diagnosed with pelvic radiation disease which explained a lot. This has slowed my output down and I now take up to 3 Laxido a day. The plus side is, the colostomy is easier to manage.
People are kind when they find out I have 2 stomas. However our next-door neighbours have are making our lives a misery to the point we are looking for a new home (we moved in here October 2020) and they have taken umbrage because I put my used bags in OUR bin and they think I should contact the council and get a "special" bin. I pointed out I have managed my stomas for years and I dispose of them correctly as advised by my stoma nurse and GP.
Anyway, I believe your mum will be okay with 2 stomas, she already has one and has some experience of them.
Anything you want to know, please let me know.
Sending yourself and mum love and good vibes and wishes.
Lisa

Thanks LisaCardiff. Can’t believe what I’ve just read about your neighbours and the bin! What sort of bin do they expect you to use? Like a sharpie bin but for bags? I always made sure my bag was empty and in a poo bag then put in the bin. I’ll bet there’s a lot more unpleasant things going in bins around the country.
Eeh there’s nowt so queer as folk is there? (Going back to visit my mum and dad this weekend so getting into the Yorkshire frame of mind!) x
Hi Karen062,
Thank you for your reply.
Our next-door neighbours are just nasty. It 27 degrees and we have to sit inside with all.our doors and windows closed because their grandsons (who live with them) are in their back garden screaming, fighting, yelling and swearing. It is unfair.
We tried to speak to them a few weeks.ago and they verbally abused us. Which is why we are moving. It is awful. Their noise level is between 100 to 120 decibels. And they moan about my stoma bags.
Enjoy your weekend and I hope you have a lovely time in Yorkshire.
