I seem to be allergic to the adhesive around my stoma pouch and I've run out of the barrier wipes I was given in hospital, can anyone recommend which wipes or cream I should use?
Moira x Three
Hi Moira,
Who are you using to supply the bags etc because they may have a recommendation and obtain samples for you to try. I was using just wet wipes, not 'wet wipes' but dry ones supplied by my supplier Fittleworth and soaked in warm water. I used a barrier spray called Protec from Coloplast that helped protect the skin and also helped adhesion. My bags were Salt Confidence and I found them very good.
If I had a problem I would call my Stoma Nurse and she would suggest a remedy and sometimes had samples to hand. She can add anything you need on to your prescription..
If your skin is sore my nurse recommended calamine lotion but let it dry thoroughly before putting on the pouch.
Hope you get it sorted
All the best, John
Thank you John, I'm using Fittleworth as my supplier and they've always been good! I asked them about the barrier wipes and they said they would try to get them added but nothing arrived! I've also been using a dry wipe, wet, with warm water, but I'm getting pretty sore, so I think I'll take your advice and phone my stoma nurse!
Thanks again, take care,
Moira.
Hi Moira,
My supplier is Securicare. My pouches have base plates made from manuka honey, which is gentle on the skin. If I need a product adding to my prescription list, I contact my surgery to request it and it usually happens. I find if I order samples and like them I can just ask for them to be added. As John said, I've also been recommended calamine lotion. Hope you're doing ok.
Love Kim xx
Hi Kim,
I think I'll ring my stoma nurse and ask if I can try the same as you, Manuka honey sounds amazing! I got onto the Coloplast site last night, to see if I could get a sample of Protec, that John recommended, but the site was down! Other than that, I'll try the calamine lotion that you've both mentioned! Honestly, just when things are going fine, something else happens!
Thanks for you help Kim, take care,

Hi Moira.
If you go onto the Securicare site there are options to request samples. They have just introduced a new pouch called Aura Plus, which has a cross shaped flange. I trialled them a few months ago and was so impressed that I had them added to my prescription as soon as they were available. There isn't as much contact with the skin as with other pouches. They are a Welland Medical product, which is a sister company to Securicare. They say they can supply any make of products, so maybe Fittleworth offers the same service.
Take care,
Love Kim xx
Thanks Kim a lot, I'll go on their site right now and request a sample!!
Love Moira xx
