Running out of the dry wipes to clean my stoma

Hi everyone

Coleplast provides me with dry wipes complimentary to clean my stoma I've had a good few occasions lately where it's been like a volcano when I change the bag and have used a few more than expected, my stoma nurse told me if I ran out of these to use kitchen towel well here's the problem I can't purchase any kitchen towel around here for love or money . Any suggestions to what else I could use as toilet paper just disintegrates when wet and leaves bits on the stoma , not keen on getting more sore skin

Thanks stay safe

Lots of love

I have always worked on the principal "If you don't ask, you don't get"

I think many will be amazed what some supply companies give as freebies.

Examples that I know that are given monthly

Obviously dry wipes, ask for 1 more packet than you need. The usual count is normally 30 per pack, 4 would be the minimum.

Another essential your waste bags, packs normally contain 30 so should be ample for 1 month, every so often ask for 2 packs.

Some companies supply two different types, tie handle and self seal.

Wet wipes, ask if your supplier supplies these handy for hand cleaning not so good for cleaning parastomal skin area.

Antibacterial hand sanitiser, I know of two supply companies that supply these monthly and will give you quite a few, handy at the current time.

Disposal bed pads. I know of several companies that supply these monthly handy for night time leaks. Pack of 30.

Stoma powder at least one company puts one in each box.

But what else can you get?

Washable bed pad, several companies give one per year.

Mattress protector did you get one when you started and need a new one you should ask.

A new travel bag, scissors, mirror or clothes clip don't be shy if you need replacements just ask.

Urostomy night stands, need a replacement you should ask.

These are items that I know of, have I missed something please share.

Back to the top "If you don't ask, you don't get"

It helps if you order your monthly supplies direct from your supplier rather that through your GP or some other method as you can build up a relationship with the team.

    What do you get,

    or Wish you could get

Please ask me if you think a product would be helpful and if it is available to be supplied against the NHS drugs tariff and I will source the manufacturer and reference number to enable you to have it prescribed.

I have successfully argued with my GP surgery why I need a product with great success, we are the people who need products to help us with being an ostomate.

The Bodach is always available to make suggestions, just ask.

    Knickers! Laughing

Don't forget you are entitled to 6 pairs of stoma underwear each year and 3 hernia support garments. You can order them online from a couple of different companies.

    Thanks

I didn't mention prescription items, but well reminded that we are "entitled" to support garments which can be a boon to many.

If anyone doesn't know where to get support garments give me a shout and I'll repost all the links for the companies showing the online catalogues.

For the ladies it's not just "knickers" you can get some upper body garments as well.

Need any information please just ask me at anytime, I really am here to help.

    Hi Peacock62

I put in a prescription order with coloplast this morning and just had confirmation it will be with me tomorro sumtime. I have complimentary dry wipes and as I order a box of 30 Hollister convex bags they send me 4 packs of 30 dry wipes in each bag and a pack of 30 black nappy sacks alongside my order as complimentary.

I had an appointment today at the hospital and all gud but not sure on the future regards a reversal. The consultant/surgeon said to reattach the bowel above my rectum regards where I had my sigmoidoscopy to remove the tumor  would be extremely difficult. I would presume they have removed the old scar tissue which caused my blockage which in turn is to why I had the Ileostomy. So a case of wait and see I guess.

    Stay safe

    No nothing yet

My original tumor removal surgery was 30th July last year and from the September I started suffering IBS style side effects. These side effects were put down to my chemotherapy but we're gradually getting worse and came to a head first week of February. I was unable to keep anything down due to a blockage caused by my original resection and scar tissue so hence the emergency Ileostomy on 10th February and I celebrated my birthday on the 9th in a hospital bed awaiting news on surgery. I'm not sure wot the future holds but am prepared to keep the Ileostomy for life depending on the chances of s further successful resection.

    Stay safe

Hi and welcome to your online community, yes I do mean your online community as we exist by being a very supportive group.

Whilst it has been a pleasure to welcome you into stoma support but we all know that this is one of places you  nevert though you'd end up in.

Can I help you with anything? It sounds as if you are struggling with having an Ileostomy and a colostomy, try to organise everything.

If you let me know what problems you are having that are causing you to struggle please let me know and we can talk through the problem and find a solution. Most problems are easily solved.

As this is all new to you it might interest you to know that most of us adopted the trial and error method to get us through and we will give you our "go to methods" to solve problems and it usually becomes a bit of pick and mix from others suggestions to get our own solution.

Now that joined stoma support you are not alone your community is right behind you all the way 7 days a week and occasionally 24 hours per day.

If you have a question no matter how small or silly you may think it is the best thing is to put it into a new discussion and at least one of us will get back to you with an answer, really there is no such thing in stoma support as a small, stupid, daft or irrelevant question.

Please come back to me and let me know the areas are struggling with and the ones causing you organising problems.

You can ask me anything about anything about being an ostomate either here or as many new members prefer to do initially by private message which is a one to one conversation and I will answer anything there nothing is too small. I have sent you a friend's request, if you would like to click on accept then we are ready to go.

I am here from you at anytime you need help, advice or support. All you need to do is give  a big shout out and I'll be there.

    Regards

    Ian
