Hi all. Just recently had a stoma. Six weeks in and it's not getting any easier. Just wanted to talk to people who are going through the same. Thanks for reading.
I live in York, we have 5 stoma nurses here all very good. Just bought some covers for the bags off amazon for when I go on holiday and lay by the pool.
I’m so sorry your stoma nurses aren’t approachable. Some of the suppliers and distributors - such as Fittleworth - employ nurses that can help over the phone.
How often do you change the pouch? After time, the air filter can become blocked, increasing the risk of leakage. And “bananas” around the pouch can reinforce the adhesion and reduce the leaking risk. A girdle can contain any spills and reduce the impact on clothes and bedding.
I can’t offer direct advice on eating, but wonder if it’s linked to a lack of confidence in the pouch. Stopping the leaks might help with appetite, perhaps...
I hope you will find ways to accommodate your stoma. Never dreamed I’d manage but it’s part of my life, without “Hermes” I wouldn’t be here!
