Hi all. Just recently had a stoma. Six weeks in and it's not getting any easier. Just wanted to talk to people who are going through the same. Thanks for reading.
Sorry it kind of froze don't know what happened. Would not let me delete anything and mixed words up.!! I am drinking bovril at the moment with tiny bit of bread but am trying to improve that. I will try soups and recipes from the forum when regain bit more strength. Many thanks Karen for your valuable advise. Tc x
Hi Mary Belle22
I have had my stoma for 9 weeks now. I had to change the type of bag due to leaks a few weeks ago. I had a massive confidence wobble around the 6 week mark. Cancelled a weekend away! I think it’s normal to be up and down about having a stoma. I had been doing well again until having a leak this morning. Luckily for me I had an important appointment which forced me to go out, and I’m okay again now. I didn’t have a huge appetite in the first few weeks. The problem is everyone telling you that you need to eat often. I can’t eat unless I’m hungry! I haven’t put weight on yet, but I’m eating all of the things I ate before my surgery. The company who supplies my bags sent me a great booklet. It tells you that no food should be avoided from any food group as they all have a role to play in our diet. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you Jools for your reply.. It gives me hope that I can do this. I have trouble with bags bursting at the moment. I don't understand nothing at all for days then whoosh the only thing I'm eating at the moment is bovril and few cornflakes. That is after really having to force down. I am going to try adding nits more. Do you have a lot of support through this?. I have none which I'm also finding difficult. I. I just so hate it. But I can see from replies I've had its got to get better. Thank you so much for reply.
Wishing you the best also.

I can’t believe you have bags bursting. Even when I’m full of wind from eating sprouts mine expand, but don’t burst! I had 3 leaks which I didn’t understand why. I am lucky as my stoma nurses are grt. They made me an appointment to check what was happening. It turned out I have a dip around my stoma which made it leak under the bags as they were flat. I now wear convex ones which has been so m
h better. Are any of your nurses approachable? It is their job after all. Keep in touch as everyone on here has good advice and great support.
Thank you jools, I know I don't understand it either especially on eating so little.? My stoma nurses are not very approachable at all. Although one is slightly better then the other but as I say slightly. I dread to think what it would be like if I was actually eating normally. I have lost a phenomenal amount of weight since this all. Started. But I've had loads of good tips from people's replies. So I'm going to start to try some of those. Thanks again for reply means a lot.
My storma nurses are great nothing is to much trouble for them, I was told I had to have 3000 calories a day to build myself up after I lost 5/6 st since the op

The only food I dont eat is hp beans I found they repeat to much lol. I have no problem with any other types of food. I find it very strange that you can put your finger into the hole to clean it out and there is no feeling when changing bags
