Unfortunately, due to the return & location of my cancer, its looking highly unlikely that I'll be able to have my stoma reversed. I was only told a few weeks ago, and it was devastating news as I'm a 36 year old guy, and I just hadn't taken to my stoma at all. I had surgery in April to remove a tumour and old 'Stan the Stoma' came along! Everything looked fine for a reversal until my cancer came back in a location that means the resulting surgery won't leave me with much of anything left to reverse & fix me.

It was awful news BUT I'm getting used to the idea and will be doing stoma irrigation once I've had my surgery, which means I can control my bowel & ditch the bag! I'll have a nice flush, cap instead.

I'm feeling better about things and will beat this second bit of cancer & get back to normal!

    Hi Mikey

I'm really sorry to hear your awful news about the reversal you were eagerly awaiting not happening due to your recurrence.

I'm pleased to see that you retaining your positivity and planning ahead and looking at irrigation which will make your life maybe just a bit easier.

We have quite a number of members in the group who irrigate and I'm sure they will be on hand to give you assistance if you need it.

Being able to irrigate is a boon to colostomates and gives them back some independence.

I hope that you are in an area where the NHS funds an Irrigation kit with an automated pump which I understand makes the process alot easier to manage.

Let's hope that this surgery will see you getting back some of your life and resuming normal activities very soon.

Please keep in touch with us and keep us informed how things are going especially with the Irrigation, I would like to see more posts being started on the subject in the near future.

    Good luck

    Ian
