The tail end of my ileostomy has worked itself out and I now have 2 st Stomas side by side. Now I have to empty the bag at least every hour and although the stool isn't burning the skin it burns when it pumps out .
Hi and a very warm welcome to stoma support and the online community and believe me I wish that you were not here as by being here means you have had some serious bowel problems but saying that I am pleased that you felt able to come onto the forum and share your problems with us
I am going to very honest and will say at the beginning that my knowledge of two ileostomies is very limited and consist of knowing that (for the benefit of others) a double-barrel transverse colostomy is when a double-barrel stoma is created where the surgeon divides the bowel completely. Each opening is brought to the surface as a separate stoma. The 2 stomas may or may not be separated by skin. one opening (stoma) puts out stool and the other one )stoma).puts out only mucus (this smaller stoma is called a mucus fistula).
How long ago did you have the procedure
Unfortunately ileostomies can produce a lot of output but emptying the bag every hour seems a bit excessive have you tried anything to try and slow down your output by watching what you eat as you know that some foods can upset your output.
Are you saying that your output is causing stinging, a burning sensation when it is active.
I hope that your stoma care nurse is aware of this and is looking at ways of stopping the burning sensation and the high output perhaps she could source you a pouch with a larger capacity that might make it a bit easier for you.
If you're emptying every hour it must be very exhausting having to get up so many times during the night. Maybe your nurse could look at a night drainage system similar to the urostomates system it could mean that you would need a different type of bag and would only work if your output is very watery.
I'm so sorry that I can be of much help and can only send my commiserations to you at this and hope that someone can quickly find a solution to this problem.
Please keep in touch with us and let us know how you getting on, I would like to hear how the problem was rectified but please do keep talking to your stoma care nurse.
Ian
