Hi everyone, I'm 5.5 months post ileostomy and settling into my new way of life (including ongoing chemo).
I've been using Fittleworth for all my supplies as that's who my hospital is signed up with. I've read various comments about suppliers, Fittleworth pops up with more negative than positive comments regarding service and quality of products.
As they are the only supplier I've used, I can't draw my own comparisons. However, I do know that I have given them more than enough chances to cut my bags correctly and they have failed every time. I've been having uncut bags which is working OK, but I have arthritis and sometimes find cutting difficult and painful.
I've recently requested some samples of deodorant sprays, absorbent gels, bridging pads etc from a variety of suppliers which has led to sales calls so I need to decide whether it's better the devil you know or time to jump ship, or do I manage several suppliers?
I'm currently being courted by trio healthcare and Bullen. I would really like to hear your recommendations, experiences and pros & cons on any suppliers you've used.
Thank you in anticipation of your wise words x
Hi Dawn
Congratulations!!!!
On reaching 5½ months In 2013 I managed a total of
3 months with them before they were given the order of the boot (but I was not shy on asking recently for some publications!) I had many issues with them.
But I would say many people are very happy with them so it's a matter of preference.
I've tried them all and now use SECURICARE MEDICAL and have been very happy with them for many years.
For about a year I was placing orders with different supply companies on rotation and sometimes getting supplies from two suppliers in one month.
You've obviously asked Trio for samples of you're being wooed by Bullens.
What I look for in a supply company.
Will they let me order new products without the third degree
Do they insist in my Stoma Care Nurse authorising new products (excepting change from flat to convex pouches must be done with the authorisation from SCN)
How are the items delivered (Courier, Royal Mail/Parcelforce or own staff)
Do I get a timed delivery.
What complimentary items do they supply in addition to wipes, disposal bags, wet wipes
How are they on sampling products
How do I order from them
If I like the answers then I'm good to go.
But I would mention I always get my samples direct from the manufacturers very rarely or ever from my supply company.
Hope this help you
Ian
