Hi just asking for a bit of advice.
Had stoma since August 2018 since then I have put on 3 stone.
I am due to have further surgery as my perianal wound won't heal so need plastic surgery.
When meeting plastic surgeon he said I was fat and that this is my fault.
I eat healthy but still not losing weight.
I have ordered some keto slimming pills and not sure if I doing the right thing.
Has anyone tried these or any other slimming aids.
Thankyou
Xxxxxx
Hi Bud
Sorry to hear that you are gaining weight after your stoma surgery it always seems to be a mystery why people who eat healthily put on weight and those who don't never change their body size, I've always been "big" and no matter what I do to watch my weight the pounds pour on I have a theory that everyone has a body weight and if we lose weight our body goes into panic mode and starts to put on the pounds, but as I say just my theory no scientific facts to back it up. Providing you are keeping to a healthy diet and your BMI is not out of proportion for your height and weight what else can you do except maybe exercise a bit more.
With regard to the keto slimming pills as far as I know there is no hard and fast tests that prove they do help you to lose weight. Before starting taking the pills I would maybe ask my GP what he thinks, obviously starting any new diet should be run past your GP first and checks made on any weight loss.
I don't think much of your plastic surgeon saying that you're fat and it's your fault, did he leave his bedside manner at home that day.
Putting on weight could affect your stoma management and you should keep measuring your stoma to ensure you're are still cutting to the right size or if you get your pouches pre cut that they are still the correct size otherwise you will end up with problems with pouch not adhering properly.

Hi Bud18
I actually need the opposite information! I had my ileostomy in February this year because of bowel obstruction. The whole process, including 6 weeks of vomiting prior to diagnosis, left me 3 stone under weight! I've managed to regain one stone, but struggling to eat the volume to put on anymore. I must be eating at least twice what I used to pre surgery, but my weight gain has stagnated regardless how many apple turnovers I eat! I'm on chemotherapy and seeing the hospital dietician tomorrow for some guidance.
We could do with swapping mealplans and lifestyle routines if they're not working for us!!
All the best
Dawn
