Hi all
Following on from my thread posted last Friday about having a drink I maybe about to contradict myself when I ask "Is water enough"?
If you have an Ileostomy it may surprise you to know that whilst plain water will refresh you and keep your fluid levels up it also helps to flush out salt from our bodies and we need to also keep our salt levels up.
The Ileostomy and Internal Pouch association known simply as IA have produced the following
https://iasupport.org/about/publications/factsheets/hydration/
You need to quickly need to scroll down until you reach the hydration advice.
They also have posted this on Twitter
https://twitter.com/iasupport/status/1144899606909718528?s=09
Whilst I have been talking about ileostomies if you have a Colostomy or Urostomy you should also read as parts may, will apply to you.
I'm off to have a sharing bag of crisps all to myself (get my salt levels up and thicken up my poo)!
Regards
Ian
