Hi everyone,
Well... I gave in to temptation. For the past couple of weeks I'd been hankering after a Bounty Bar. But we all know that it's coconut, and that coconut sometimes doesn't do us ostomates any favours. The Bounty Bar was just sitting right there beside me at the queue for the checkout. And I thought... is it a case of there's coconut, and there's a Bounty Bar. Does a Bounty Bar really have the kind of coconut that won't do me any favours? Even though I've tried in the past, and it didn't go down (through) well? But I gave in. Oh did I enjoy that Bounty Bar. Every last bit of it. I thought I'd got away with it, but now I realise that no.... a Bounty Bar is not for me! I'm sure it will take a longer time to work it's way through the system, but do you know what... this time... it was worth it!
Just goes to show you that sometimes you can be lucky enough to enjoy that forbidden fruit and get away with it. But will I do it again?..... Emmm… Not a chance!!!
But you do have to try things for yourself, and sometimes even try something a few times to finally work out if it's good for you or not, or to find out how your stoma deals with things, and let's face it, forewarned is forearmed. I love baked beans, so have to block out some time in the diary for that treat. But peanuts are a rarer treat - Christmas, and only a tiny wee amount. Too many people say you can't have this or you can't have that because of your stoma, but you'll never know until you try! (Although try responsibly!!).
Linda :-)
Hi Linda
I absolutely love your thread. I’ve tried so many things and been fine one time and not another. Won’t give up, just keeping on trying. What suits one didn’t always suit another either.
Love the phrase, try responsibly. Have a little and see how you feel and if ok don’t go mad the next time. I Overdid the nuts once and it was a rather uncomfortable night although I can cope with that and not a trip to a&e. Small amounts are best.
Thanks for starting this thread. It’s scary when people say you can’t have things or else! When first out of hospital I was so afraid to eat in feat of a blockage my diet was awful. My stoma nurse was great and gave me try it and see advice.
Have a great day, Linda.
Best wishes

The big question on Bounty Bars should be, is it wrapped in Blue or wrapped in Red?
From the country that brought you deep fried Mars bars I bring you.............
Deep fried bounties:
You'll need for 1 person
approx 2 litres of sunflower or other oil
150g self raising flour
200-225ml fizzy water
8 x fun sizes bounty bars
Heat the oil in a deep fryer to maximum heat.
The batter
Measure the flour into a bowl and whisk in 175 ml of the fizzy water to make the batter, adding the rest of the water if the consitency is stil too thick: you want this just thick enough to ahdere easily. The best way to check is to turn a bounty in it: if the batter sticks well enough, its fine. i just use my fingers for this, but tongs work well too.
Method
Plunge the batter-blanketed bounties in the hot oil and fry for about 3 minutes until the batter is puffed and golden. remove to pieces of kitchen towel to absorb excess grease, then pile up on a plate.
Everything on a plate that an Ostomate needs to start the day feeling a little bit naughty!
But remember my motto to chew chew chew chew chew chew chew and enjoy.
If you enjoyed my name's Ian
If not blame Nigella!
p.s. Did I mention you should chew alot
i think this could be the start of a new thing - recipes with the ostomates. Not the average healthy eating but the downright wrong for you but you’re having it anyway!
Love it Ian. I remember a fried mars bar on a trip to Scotland with school many years ago. Fried bounty sounds delicious!
