Hi Group

I am set for a colostomi reversal and tumor removal in a week, but  I have developed a hernia, its been a while since I´ve seen my stoma nurse, last time in was also there and she didnt say anything? still i`m wondering if a reversal is at all possible with a hernia?

Thank you

    Hi Elisabeth

Sorry I didn't have a chance to welcome to group previously please accept my belated welcome to the group and I hope you are finding the information in the group to be helpful and informative.

Having a hernia doesn't worry the medical professionals all that much if it is not causing you any problems although to us who have a hernia it is a problem to us as it can cause problems with leakages and pouch fitting.

When you have your colostomy reversal it would be normal to repair the hernia at the same time to avoid further unnecessary surgery.

You should express your concerns to the medical team before the reversal and ask if they will be doing the repair at the same time.

I wish you well with the surgery and hope that you start to enjoy a better lifestyle very soon.

Once you have your reversal we are still here for you and the fellow members who have had the surgery will be on hand at anytime you need to ask any questions about anything, yes really anything, about life after reversal. No question is so small or silly that it should not be asked. If you're thinking it ask it someone will have the answer you are looking for.

Please do keep in touch we are always here for you.

  • Hi Elisabeth

I was due to have my ileostomy reversed last August. Less than two weeks before this I ended up in A&E with a blockage. They couldn’t find the cause and it seemed to resolve itself over the next 48 hours.

My reversal went ahead as planned and when I saw the surgeon he told me they had found a hernia and repaired it at the same time. The operation was a bit longer than planned (4 hours) and the scar a bit bigger, but otherwise no issue.

Hope everything goes well for you.

Thanks Ian for your warm welcome!

    And Jane for your reply.

I will try to catch a doctor/surgeon first thing monday and explain the situation, my stoma nurse should have informed me too as she is has seen me last. I thought it was a constipated bulge i had, yesterday i looked at hernia pictures on the net and thats exactly what it looks like.

I also still have an ilestomi to go through from a weeks time, why they didn't start with it I dont know.

I have gone into depression lately and i have such anger and rage about my whole situation that i cant process, unless i start accepting again. And thats hard.

I'm happy though it is considered something minor, I cant handle anymore, a month ago I had sympthoms of rheumatism, which freaked me out, as i had pains in all my joints, thanks to my homeopath/dietist we were able to reverse the inflammation within some weeks, and I 'm back to normal. I feel I 'll explode if something big goes wrong from now on.

I talk to others, family, friends etc, but its a very lonely path and proces, its all inner work, faith, trust etc you all know what I mean.

    Many Regards Elisabeth

    Hi Elisabeth

Thanks for coming back to us and yes you are correct when you say it's a lonely path and process but it need not be as you've found us and you can always come on here at anytime if you have any concerns about anything, you can come on in and just have a chat, have a rant and rave or even just to let off steam we're all friends together and share in each others problems.

Can I just mention that you should be careful what you look at on the internet some of the information is very misleading and out of date, if you can ask us any questions you have.

I was speaking to a stoma nurse yesterday and she looked at me very strangely when I said that I own my stoma, it does not own me and if you can try to think this I'm sure it will help you.

You are telling me that you are to have an Ileostomy in a few weeks will this be permanent or just for a short time.

It is easy to feel anger and be depressed about your situation but it does get easier once acceptance sets in and you think of the other side of the coin 'The bag and operation probably saved your life" and now you have a future to look forward and a life to make of it as you want. There is nothing to stop you being as active as you were prior to the surgery, deep breaths and try and accept it, have faith and trust in all around you and remember we are all here to give you as much help, advice and support as you need, please do keep in touch, reaching out to us can be a big help

    Kind regards

    Dear Ian

I´m happy you can pave tthe way for us that lack optimism and knowledge. I just read your story on your profile.... I can truly feel you´ve come through the barrier. Good for you.

And I agree about taking charge of your body, all body parts, -if you´re not in charge something else is.

(meaning somekind of victim attitude, dislike, hatred etc will be seated in that area)

    Warm regards, Elisabeth
