    Hi

I try to sit for a while with my bag off and apply either camomile lotion or sudacrem to the sore area.   Clean it all off before putting the new bag on.

  • Hi Louisa my skin got sore round my ileostomy in the beginning I think I was rushing changing it and not getting the round wafer thing exactly round my stoma, now I keep my little wipe on my stoma in case it's starts to spout lol GrinGrinand lay out all my things ready then try to get the wafer close to stoma as possible with no skin showing then put bag on.i had to change to a convex bag . Hope this helps. Best wishes Vanessa x

Sorry Lousia I apologies for coming late to the party I've been out of action for a few weeks and not been as active as I normally am.

How is the soreness now, has it cleared up.

You don't say if the soreness was on the skin due to damage or if it was an actual pain.

Soreness of the surrounding skin can be caused by many things like badly fitting pouch causing faecus to get under the base plate and irritate the skin or it could be an allergy reaction to adhesive. Do you have a stoma nurse in the hospital that you are in just now who could check your stoma size, they do change and if we don't keep measuring problems can happen and cause a breakdown in the skin resulting in soreness and itching and could mean that the pouch does not adhere properly.

Your body has been put through a lot in the last few months and the soreness could be just simply your body getting back to normal and your insides settling down in the cavities.

As has been mentioned there is nothing better that letting your stoma being left uncovered and letting the air getting to it, providing it's not active, for as long as you can.

Perhaps you could let me know if the soreness was caused by damaged skin or just a slight ache.

You're doing so well keep up the good work, it's getting closer to the day that you will be back home with mum.
