Hi had my stoma since Aug 18 since then I have put on 2 stone in weight.

I worry as they say being overweight highers your risk of cancer been there done that.

I have followed slimming world and haven't lost a lb.

Is it normal for weight gain.

  • Hi Bud, i’m struggling with trying to lose weight too. I lost a lot following my low anterior resection with a temporary ileostomy in early 2018, then started putting it on before my reversal 7months ago.

I am trying to eat healthier meals, but still struggle with veg, fruit and fibre. I’ve also had an alarmingly increased relationship with chocolate and sweet food, way beyond what I’m used to! Not sure what’s going on.

I’ve decided to try to go sugar free but find my choices of food are getting smaller and smaller-I’ve given up alcohol, red meat, processed meat and processed meals.

I also panic about being overweight and feel  guilty that i’ve been given a second chance and don’t want to increase the risk of recurrence by not being a healthy weight.

Don’t beat yourself up, having the ileostomy can limit your food choices and as long as you’re feeling good and getting some exercise I’m sure you’ll lose the extra weight in time.

  • Hi I feel the same I have given up the same foods as you and seem to eat chicken for every meal lol.

Also it's like I crave sugary crap food which never used to bother me.

I feel guilty that I got given second chance but feel like I messing it up then I think what if the cancer returns.

Really need to go back to work lol

Glad to know I not on my own thank you

  • I feel exactly the same since I had my surgery and temporary stoma. I'm relieved to hear it's not just me that is craving sweet sugary crap. I'm struggling to find a healthy diet and to do exercise.

Thanks for sharing and showing me I'm not alone.x
