Last year in February, I had a temporary stoma. In January this year, my consultant said I can have a reversal and 6 weeks later I had my pre-op. I haven’t heard anything since so I was wondering if anyone knows how long is the waiting list for a reversal?

Thabk you :)

  • Hi

I would think the waiting list depends on each hospital but I had mine within days of my pre-op. The surgeon described it as a 'nice little operation to fit in between the big ones'.

I think I would be giving the surgeons secretary a ring to see if you've been forgotten about - at this rate you'll need another more up to date pre-op!

    Hope you get something sorted

    Hi Jadie,

I was very interested reading your post. In about three weeks I am having the contrast x-ray to check if I am ready for the reversal, and was told it may be a wait afterwards to have the op done. Keep us posted; I'll do the same.

    Kind regards,

    Yolande

I will keep you updated :)

  • I am in exact same boat. I had temporary stoma in September last year and was initially told my reversal would be in July 2018 after completing my treatment. I was then told they would do the surgery after contrast enema and ct scans. I have since had these tests and I was then told I'm now on the waiting list. I do not even know how long the waiting is. After having mentally prepared myself to get it out of the way I am feeling a bit down about not knowing how long I will have to wait.

I hope hou get a date for yours soon - keep us posted.

    Hi all,

I had my x-ray on Monday and a call from my specialist colorectal nurse that all looks good (no leak, no strictures) and that she is starting the process for the next operation. I asked her if she has a rough indication of how long it might be, and she says it could possibly be in the next two months (Oxford). It is of course not definite, but at least it gives me a date that if I haven't heard from the hospital in that time, I could e-mail or call her to get an update of what is going on.

    Kind regards,

    Yolande

    Hi Jadie 75

i was in exactly the same situation with a reversal operation date. I had a temporary stoma in August last year. I had a problem in that i

requested that my re-join operation date be booked anytime between May and August of this year.  This was to fit in with my daughters

holiday return from working abroad.  The specialist stated that he would see.  Many repeated telephone calls to his secretary were made

but I was told that there was a big backlog brought on by bed blocking and that a predicted date was likely to be October/November

This of course did not take into account more bed blocking caused by the forthcoming winter crisis.

At this point I decided to go private, same hospital virtually the following week  .Glad I did it , very sorry for the many others who were

not able to do likewise.  The national health service is under tremendous pressure and but for my predicament I would of course have

Waited for the date of my operation.

    Hi Merlot22

i have not had the final bill but I was quoted by The hospital anything between £6-8;000. If you are thinking of going private give

your hospital a ring and they will cost it out for you. I think the price is not outlandish when you compare a knee operation is

roughly nearly double that cost. Obviously I didn’t initially want to go private but family circumstances meant that this was my only option
