I am two years post op colostomy from rectal cancer. Two months ago I had a parastomal hernia repair. Everything was fine but yesterday after my shower I noticed a lump next to my stoma. It looked kind of like a blister but was large, like the size of a grape or small plum. I felt no pain at all and am passing stool as normal. There has been no constipation or diarrhea. I am not sure what this is or if I should go to urgent care. Anyone know what this is and if it’s something to worry about. This morning it seems to be gone.
Hi PattyM and welcome to the group.
None of us would be able to say what this might be, so it would be best if you saw your doctor. I’m not sure if you are in the UK or not, but are you still under the care of your consultant or surgeon for reviews? In the UK, our accident and emergency department is for serious injuries and life threatening emergencies, but your situation may be different if you are not UK based.
Some members of the group have had lumps appear in the area of their stoma which have been caused by constipation, but you have said you don’t have that. However, parastomal hernias can be common and as you have recently had one repaired, I’d recommend contacting your doctor to have this assessed.
