I am 16 days post op and still not convinced I’m fitting my bag correctly.
I have been so emotional too which is not my nature. I start chemo in 3 weeks which also a worry.
everything as happened so fast I feel like I’m on a rollercoaster unable to get off.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear how you're feeling but likening your experiences to a rollercoaster that you can't get off is a common theme for those of us who have had a cancer diagnosis.

I can't help with how to fit your bag correctly, as this isn't something I've had to deal with, but I noticed that you hadn't had any response to your post. Do you have a specialist nurse you can speak to about the correct fitting of the bag?

You could also post in the Ask a Nurse (link) section of the online community and one of the specialist nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.

If speaking to someone is easier then give the Macmillan Support Line a call on 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and available every day between 8am and 8pm.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • I'm glad to read that your stoma nurse has reassured you. I had an ileostomy for 7 months and found it difficult to cope with it at first, especially as I love eating! I introduced fruit & veg in smoothies and soups at first. I have posted recipes under Dining with an Ostomate in the Community blog, do take a look. I was concerned about how my stoma output would be during chemo but I was fine - I ate jelly babies & bananas if my output became loose. Message me if you need any tips or reassurance. x
